Hey Slugger – With Us or Not – Single Review

With or without you, Hey Slugger is taking their new single, “With Us or Not” to the top of the Pop-Punk world!

Bio: War, sickness, natural disaster, economic turmoil, the 2000s were lousy and filled with tragic events, and a cloud of uneasiness smothered us. For kids who could barely understand, let alone comprehend the constant tension they found themselves in, there was Punk Music. To run, jump, skate, fight, scream that tension away was all some knew in the ceaseless fight for a place to belong. The search for something happy in a vast, confusing world full of unhappiness was a continuous task for teenagers. But “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways.” Or if you’re Hey Slugger, it’s just the beginning. Don’t put an end to the childish ways. Keep chasing that feeling you feel at the front of the crowd, scoring the game-winning point, or throwing caution to the wind. The 2000s were tough, but all of that stuff sounds eerily familiar. Lace-up, Slugger.

Sometimes, you have to go back to that nostalgic place that only early 2000s music could take you. Often, you want a new experience to accompany that nostalgia. It’s an oxymoron, but Hey Slugger hit a home run with “With Us or Not.” Their latest single scratches all the itches that only early 2000s Pop-Punk could. Classic, crisp, Pop-Punk vocals? Check. Bouncy and inviting guitars? Check. Bass that grooves with the beat? Check. Drums that make you want to kickflip over your neighbor’s dog? Check. The song even has chanted gang vocals in the pre-chorus, giving it a real sing-along quality. The lyrics are fun and memorable. “Take your shot and make it count, cuz I’m dying to see what you’re made of.” The pre-chorus repeats with variations in the lyrics, and then the song goes into a chorus that asks, “Are you with us or not?” We definitely are. Hopefully, if you’re reading this, you are too. If you are a fan of early 2000s Pop-Punk, bands like Blink-182 and New Found Glory, or love to feel nostalgic, then you need “With Us or Not” in your playlist now!
