BANDITS are set to drop “Summer Dress” on October 19th, 2020. They sent us a press kit and want to tell us their story. Hear “Summer Dress” here!
With a global pandemic locking the country down, entertainment has been at an all time low; or so it seems. A lockdown was just enough to motivate Chris Goodman (Singer) and Joshua Moore (Drummer) into pursuing a project they had been discussing for over a year. Chris and Joshua had been discussing starting a project ever since they met in residence during their first-year in college, and with all of the extra time, they were able to organize London, Ontario’s next big sad boy band. Thus BANDITS was born.

After adding two new members in Chris Ma (Guitarist) and Sam Downey (Bassist), BANDITS were well equipped with talent and experience. Meeting each other through school at Fanshawe College’s Music Industry Arts program, the members of BANDITS were each a part of different acts. It would only be once COVID-19 hit North America that the guys in the band would really bunker down and start perfecting their formula. Their hard work and organization over their live session of “Summer Dress” has garnered them over 3.5 thousand streams across YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
BANDITS have lots of talented friends in the London music scene. Bands like Sweater Puppies, Sneaker Club, and Allodays, hailing from the London, ON music scene.
BANDITS sound stretches into visions of Emo Punk, Alternative Pop Rock, and just good old Pop Punk. The band found its sound within a shared interest in artists like Modern Baseball and PUP. BANDITS sound and style are being compared to bands like The Front Bottoms and Mom Jeans by colleagues and fans. Chris Goodman’s vocal delivery is raw and filled with emotion. Chris Ma layers sections with bright Emo-Punk inspired riffs. Sam Downey holds the groove to be captivating from moment to moment. And Joshua Moore…. hits things…. Like really really hard.
The lyrics for “Summer Dress” tell the story of lost love. It’s about a boy somewhere between reminiscing good memories and toxically living through the past. The boy recalls the moment he met his lover and tells the story of a breakup and the mental impact of isolation. “Saw you there in a summer dress. It was right around my birthday when you packed up and left,” is sonically the peak of the track, but also the peak emotionally.
The live session released, mixed by Dex Piecowye, is only the start of a collection of music from BANDITS. The band has planned and are set to record another basement session on October 22nd, though this time it’s three new songs. “Get a Life,” arguably the strongest of the three songs, is a ballad that reaches a slew of different levels dynamically and emotionally. The song tells the story of a boy who faces the pressures of life and past relationships. Set to release sometime mid-November, be sure to pay attention to BANDITS through the coming months.
“A collection of sad songs we tried to make sound happy,” a phrase Chris Goodman can be quoted saying often to describe the theme of the project, pursued based on the shared love of making music by all members of BANDITS. Keep your ears on high alert for when BANDITS drop their premier singles.
