Always Grounded is a 5 piece Pop Punk band from Connecticut, formed by brothers RJ and Eli. Their current line up consists of 5 misfits, RJ “Sweaty Man Toucher” Dionne, Eli “Not Nice to See You” Dionne, Jude “Don’t Sing That Beatles Song at Me” Alexander, and Marcelo “Mustache Man” Erazo. The music video for Always Grounded’s “Caffeine Haze” is the absolute perfect compliment for an already phenomenal song. The video starts with the protagonist checking his voicemail. This voicemail was his girlfriend breaking up with him in the worst way possible, saying, “You’re the worst thing that ever happened to me. You’re better off dead.” Breaking up with him over voicemail and saying that? Wow! What a jerk! She definitely got our man down, because he cracks open an energy drink and watches trashy late-night TV. How many of us have been there, hoping that the caffeine will make us feel better?
The protagonists flips through the channels, and we see people in love with trees, holding each other in bed, pro wrestling, and yoga infomercials. The best thing about these would-be television programs are that all the actors are members of the band, and they’re hilarious. We get to see the singer slammed on the mat, all to make light of an incredibly depressing situation that only Pop-Punk bands knows how to.
These infomercials have performances of the band and scenes of the protagonists looking depressed. The video seems bleak and depressing, but it has a happy ending. The singer, RJ, holds the microphone for the protagonist, and he sings, “My pores let out the caffeine I consumed. Now I sleep at night cause I’m finally over you.”
