Martyr for Madison – Change Your Mind – Music Video Review

“Change Your Mind” by Martyr for Madison is a great track, and nothing you say could change our minds. It even has an awesome music video!

Formed in 2013, Martyr for Madison is a 4-piece emo/post-hardcore outfit born in West Michigan. The band’s signature sound seeks to balance a catchy melody, an honest voice, an energetic live show, and heavy vibes. In February 2016, the band released their debut album “Connections,” featuring singles “There & Back” and “Lonely Homes & Dial Tones.” Their follow-up EP “Transitions” was released in November 2018, featuring the singles “To Turn a Page” and “I’ll Cheer to That.” On May 8th, 2020, the band released their “Nearsighted” EP.

Our minds are made up! Martyr for Madison did it again with their exciting visuals. You may ask, how could a black and white music video of just the band be interesting? Watch the video! You’ll see that the band trades boots that stick to the ceiling, so when it’s that band member’s turn to be upside they have them on! They cropped out the boots. We wonder how they got a whole drum set to stick to the ceiling; impressive! All jokes aside, it’s an enjoyable video to watch the band members going from upside down to right-side-up. You could also tell the band had a blast filming the video, and that’s always good to see.

“Change Your Mind” definitely didn’t leave us broken-hearted. It did the opposite! We fell in love! The track starts with an echo sound, then enters the guitar with the room mic drums. A drum fill, and then the band comes in. The singer talks rhythmically for a while, and then it goes to the Pop-Punk/Emo sound that Martyr for Madison is known for. It’s quite an interesting change! Everyone could relate to these lyrics, “Please don’t misunderstand that you were everything I wanted but could never have, could never have.” Who hasn’t wanted to be with someone and couldn’t have them? Then the chorus has a phenomenal melody and lyrics, “If I’d know it was the last time, I would have tried to change your mind.” Again, so relatable. We’ve had those times where we didn’t know it was the last time we saw someone, or it was the last chance you had to get with them, and you spent years because you didn’t shoot your shot. It’s all too real. The vocals express the lyrics so that you can’t help but feel what the band is trying to convey. If you love songs that remind you about the one that got away, if you love Pop-Punk and Emo, then you need “Change Your Mind” in your playlist now! We guarantee you won’t change your mind once you do!
