Do you have a story behind your artist name?
Sal Baglio: I wrote a song titled “The Boy With The Amplifier Head” which was essentially about a kid who heard everything loud – and named the band after the song. It is also quite possible that it was the image of that same kid carrying a Silvertone 1484 amp head through the streets of East Boston heading to rehearsal in some cellar.
Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?
I am still on the journey so I am spherical and traveling on an oblong road.
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?
Melodic noise. Rock & Roll.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?
I was born the year Elvis starred in and sang Jailhouse Rock. Seven years later I saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. BOOM! I play guitar because of my father. He taught me my first chords, “The Sheik of Araby” by Django Reinhardt.
What inspires you to write music?
I am a but lowly antenna just waiting to pick up a signal, a feed from the Big Noise on high.
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?
This month’s Songs From They Came To Rock is a soundtrack record. Aliens came to Earth to find Rock & Roll which they had first heard through radio signals. The idea came from Executive Producer Norty Cohen who entrusted me to produce, arrange and write utilizing The Amplifier Heads along with very special guest vocalists and musicians. I wrote all but two tracks for the album.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?
At this point, all I want is for them to listen.
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?
On this particular day my three favorite artists are The Kinks, Brian Wilson and NRBQ.
