Mourning Coffee Confronts Love, Loss, and Mortality on his New Single “One Last Time”

Emerging goth-folk artist Mourning Coffee welcomes listeners into an introspective world of love, loss, and self-discovery through his new song “One Last Time.”

The song begs the question: Who are we once the people or things that define us are lost?

The track was written in Warwick, NY in the silent stillness of a cemetery, which set the mood that encompassed the song and respective music video.

Mourning Coffee shares, “Cemeteries have an eerie sense of yearning to them,” he reflects. “I tend to wonder where the hopes and dreams of all those people went. What if a ghost is nothing but that burning desire refusing to let go? Something deep stirs within me when I think about that.”

Musically, “One Last Time” strikes a balance between movement and melancholy. Its upbeat rhythm is overlaid by a haunting piano melody which gives it both an emotional complexity and cinematic feel. Putting dynamic percussion alongside mournful instrumentation reflects the core theme of the song – finding light in the shadow of loss. It encapsulates the dual nature of sorrow and elation which exists within Mourning Coffee’s musicianship.

Lyrically, “One Last Time” is an exploration of love, death, and the transitory essence of life. It captures the urgency of holding onto every second we have because life and love are temporary. Repeated throughout the song is the phrase “Because we do not know when we will die” and this reinforces the song’s theme that we need to live our lives to the fullest while we still can.

“One Last Time” was recorded in Mourning Coffee’s home studio with his friend Sam Stauff who is an experienced producer and sound engineer. Recording in his own studio gave Mourning Coffee the ability to create the sound just the way he imagined.

With its cinematic tone and haunting lyricism, “One Last Time” invites listeners to reflect, feel, and connect. Do we really know who we are without the people or things that define us?
