Driven by the lust of nostalgia, the emo revival has fans and bands alike reaching back and bringing gems of the past back into the light. The latest of rediscovered classics to receive contemporary accolades is Just Enough Bright from Time Spent Driving. Released in 2002, when no one knew where emo or indie was going to go, Time Spent Driving offered up a soft and dynamic tone paired with vulnerable, emotional lyrics.

Just Enough Bright was released at a time when the airwaves were populated by Eminem and Nickleback, and the alternative scene championed aggressive and louder acts like Queens of the Stone Age, Finch, and The Used. The softly dynamic and layered texture of Just Enough Bright stood in contrast to what was the norm. Their contrast in sound and relentless touring led to a devoted following of fans who treasured Time Spent Driving’s more tender approach to tempestuous emotions.
Over 20 years later, the newly remixed and remastered Just Enough Bright will be released April 10 via Thirty Something Records. Remixed by the album’s original producer J. Robbins and remastered by Dan Coutant, the reissue brings a renewed depth and balance without alienating its core character. Also included on the reissue is the newly recorded track “What It Should Be Like”. Written during the original recording sessions, this long unfinished track will finally be shared with long adoring fans.
Ahead of its release, the remixed and remastered track “Angel & I” is now available to stream and download. A limited vinyl release is available via the Thirty Something Records website for both US and International fans.
At the time of its release, many praised Just Enough Bright for being ahead of its time. Focusing on melody over screams and a tempered approach to heartache, Time Spent Driving represented a wave of emo-indie that had not yet found its footing. Finally receiving a much deserved revisiting, Just Enough Bright will make you sway and reflect as it always has but with enhanced clarity and defined contrast.

Bio:
Veterans of the legendary late 90s/early 2000s legendary emo scene, the band’s journey began in 1998 with roots in San Francisco Bay Area punk and hardcore. Their sound seemingly came out of nowhere as it relates to what was going on in the region—cutting their own trail with an emotive indie rock that was a better compliment to mid-western and discord-esque bands from their pivotal era. Playing over 150 shows in their initial run, the band toured both the US and Europe to a growing and ever-loyal fanbase. Their music has been released and distributed on Sessions, Doghouse, Deep Elm, Rise Records, Cardigan, Negative Progression, and Lorelei Records. They’ve also been featured nationally on several MTV shows and the Xbox video games “Amp’d Snowboarding,” “Transworld Surf,” and more.
