Sharing Loss, Finding Love: Cape Crush release new single “Come Shed Your Light on Me”.

In their latest single “Come Shed Your Light on Me”, Cape Crush reach an even higher level of emotional, intimate lyricism and stunning melodies that have come to define this Massachusetts outfit. Reflecting on moments that have been missed in the wake of sudden tragedy, Cape Crush explores the complexities of love born from loss.

Released March 25, the latest single from Cape Crush expands the powerful songwriting and sonic structure that fans have come to adore about the band. Complemented by the warm twang of a lapsteel, the band’s signature power-emo sound finds shades of Americana and sets the tone for the heartfelt storytelling to come. Vocalist and guitarist Ali Lipman opens up and shares her journey following the sudden death of her mother when Lipman was in her early 20s.

“I wanted to reflect on the stage of life I was in before her death, recognizing how youth, distraction, and inexperience kept me from fully appreciating the time we had together,” she shares. “The song explores that painful awareness, as well as the disorientation of sudden loss and the struggle to make sense of it all. At its core, this song is about how grief becomes a lasting expression of love, shaping how I move through the world and reminding me to stay present, because nothing is guaranteed.”

Lipman delivers the lyrics with delicacy but with the purpose to share them with others. In the swirling memories of regret and confusion, there is a sense of grounded power that only comes with time and reflection. “Come Shed Your Light on Me” is a compelling and balanced listen, with honest emotional weight on one end and soaring guitars and uplifting arrangements on the other.

It is evident that Cape Crush’s sound has been influenced by lauded emo acts of years passed, but they continue to prove that they are becoming influential in their own right. “Come Shed Your Light on Me” is an exemplary track that demonstrates the dynamic energy of Cape Crush and their interpersonal acumen to connect with listeners. Labeling themselves as power-emo, it would not be far fetched to adopt the tag Empower-emo.

Place Memory is set for release on May 1 with vinyl and merch is available for pre-order via Wanna Hear It Records.
