Mustard Service is an indie rock band based in Miami, Florida. Self-described as “zest pop,” the band’s music draws influences from rock, surf, jazz, funk, and bossa nova, while also infusing Cuban, Uruguayan, Argentinian, and Mexican flavors into their unique sound.
The three-piece lineup features Marco Rivero Ochoa on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Leo Cattani on keyboard, and Adam Perez on drums. Their Latin heritage is deeply embedded in their sound, with many of their songs featuring Spanish lyrics and vibrant Latin rhythms.
Following their 2025 album Vice City Magic, Mustard Service now returns with their vibrant new single, “Who Knew Your Body.” Smooth velvet vocals, melodic guitars, and upbeat, sunshine vibes give this track a playful, feel-good energy, while its narrative leans into something far darker beneath the surface. As Marco explains, “This song acts as a critique on the romanticization of cliche hallmark/rom-com relationships. the song starts from the pov of a mentally ill man who’s come to a harsh realization; he’s accidentally killed his partner, who has threatened to leave him, in a love-sick frenzy. Although hyperbolic, this is how people seem to me when they make their relationship their whole life, or put their partner on a delusional pedestal; overbearing and neurotic. Wanting someone is beautiful, but needing someone to complete you as a fully grown adult is rom-com toxicity.”
The upcoming album is being produced by the renowned Chad Copelin, known for his work with bands like Broncho, Wildorado, and Mustard Service themselves. Marco shares, “Your relationship with your producer can change everything. Watching Chad get excited enough to play and write parts for our songs is more motivating than I can put into words.”
Marco also reflects on the album’s themes, explaining, “I had to deal with a lot of loss over the last year, and many songs process those emotions—things left unsaid, things that should have been. I’ve also been having apocalyptic dreams, so mortality sneaks in.” The band continues to play with that contrast between upbeat, easy-going music and lyrics that reflect something more complicated underneath.
Mustard Service has previously opened for Bombay Bicycle Club and headlined sold-out shows at the prestigious El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. With a strong live presence, a growing fanbase, and streaming numbers in the hundreds of millions, the band is poised for another exciting chapter with their upcoming album.
