Finding The Fun In Dysfunction: MEGG releases new single “Idiot”

MEGG brings bold pop melodies and punk energy into the mayhem and mess of everyday survival in her latest single “Idiot”. Released May 29, “Idiot” is an untethered leap into the chaos that has come to define reality and MEGG is unapologetically making music for those who choose to find the fun in the dysfunction.

Nearly 15 years since the release of her debut “The EP”, MEGG has continued to evolve to not just exist within – but to personify the characteristics of the world around her. If things got messy, MEGG stirred the pot; If things got tough, MEGG got tougher; and when things turned dark, MEGG found solace in the shade. With “Idiot”, the South Bay LA-raised star delivers a brutally honest reflection of all-encompassing exhaustion, the feeling of being trapped between a rock and a hard place, and embracing that every mess is a mark of humanity.

Not one to let herself be defined by her mistakes, MEGG exemplifies resilience and a punk attitude that sneers and scoffs in the face of hardship. “Idiot” marks a new dimension of MEGG as she steps into a higher level of self-awareness and embraces the truth that there is more we have in common than not – especially when it comes to navigating life without the smallest semblance of trusted guidance.

“At its core, ‘Idiot’ is about accepting that nobody actually knows what they’re doing. I feel like that’s where we are as a society right now. I wrote this as a way of embracing the fact that we’re all just doing our best. Like, I’m just a pig rolling in the shit of it all — and if that makes me an idiot, then I guess the shoe fuckin’ fits.”

With a sound that harkens back to the early 2000s pop-punk classics and 90s alternative grit, “Idiot” melds emotional and raw lyrics with upbeat and intoxicatingly catchy instrumentation. MEGG knows how to turn a phrase and make any words work to her advantage that seamlessly swing from humorous to devastating in a single stanza.

“Idiot” is a strikingly apt addition to MEGG’s growing catalogue of anti-hero anthems that live in the space between regret and revelry. If there really is a choice between being a good example or a terrible warning, MEGG plays both sides of the spectrum, and is one of the most relatable voices in music today because of it.
