Scintillatingly Smooth and Lyrically Jagged: Samantha Aucoin releases “Adore Me”

On her latest single, pop provocatrix Samantha Aucoin asks for the bare minimum from potential partners and refuses to settle for anything less. “Adore Me” is a luminous and richly textured track that showcases Aucoin’s continued evolution as a singer, lyricist, and feels like laying on silk sheets spread upon a bed of thorns.

With every new release, Samantha Aucoin resonates more directly and genuinely with her audience. No stranger to the trials and tribulations of love and the many facades that pose as love, Aucoin does not paint herself in any shade of “woe-is-me”. Instead, she delivers an honest recount of her experiences that are imbued with a sense of hopeful significance. One of the many refreshing characteristics of Aucoin’s music is her ability to create space for countless others to hear their own similar stories reverberate – especially when it comes to finding someone who has the capacity to reciprocate genuine affection.

On “Adore Me”, Aucoin explores new dimensions between modern R&B and pop for a sound that is scintillatingly smooth and lyrically jagged. Like countless others, Samantha Aucoin does not have a sprawling criteria to be her partner – She just wants to be adored. As the chorus states: “Hold me close / Tell me you adore me / Use your head / Let your hands explore me.” With “Adore Me”, Aucoin hits the proverbial nail on the head with its simple, clear messaging that turns out to be far too difficult to comprehend in practice for…well, boys.

In contrast to her previous single “Something to Regret” that purposely had very little promotion, “Adore Me” has been consistently teased and promised to be a shake up for good reason. Aucoin has made it very clear that “Adore Me” is in part a response to all the boys who pose as men that leave her unimpressed, unsatisfied, and underwhelmed. As published on her instagram regarding the release of the new single, she writes: “The boys will hate this one. The men on the other hand…”. Without having to publish any names, “Adore Me” is distinct in its simmering ire that there must be a few boys thinking “oh man, this is about me.”

“Adore Me” is an erudite declaration that Samantha Aucoin is not working this hard to be a second choice – musically or otherwise. “Adore Me” has all the makings of a breakout track, and the greatest hope is that the message and the music do not fall on deaf ears.
