Promise Game

We don’t hide the fact that we love Promise Game here at CTRL+Space. We like them so much that we gave them the band of the year for 2021. CTRL+Space has been following Promise Game since their first EP, It Won’t Be Long . . . and the journey has been rewarding. We’ve seen Promise Game grow from a Pop-Punk band to masters of Alternative music.

We’ve already written full articles on three of five tracks on Horizon, and we encourage you to read them if you want to know more about those tracks. Definitely, listen to Horizon on Spotify to experience the greatest for yourself. Fans of Motion City Soundtrack, We The Kings, Wonder Years, All-American Rejects, and Man Overboard would find Horizon appealing.

Promise-Game-2

Horizon opens with “I Give Up, You Win,” Its sexy synth, cool basslines, searing guitar licks, tight drums, and passionate vocal performances set the tone for the entire EP. In the second verse, any 90s kid would instantly fall in love with the multiple references to Notorious B.I.G. “I’m Not Listening” feels like the natural progression in Horizon with its alternative flavor that feels rooted in Pop-Punk and Emo. “I’m Not Listening” has a unique style to Promise Game and will keep your attention.

“Nightmares” and “Sleeping Weather” blast us out of the park with heavy basslines right out the gate. With “Nightmares” and “Sleeping Weather,” we move away from the Pop-Punk roots and into something firmly Alternative. The track ordering was ingenious as you could completely hear Promise Game’s evolution. These tracks are dominated by synth and bass. It creates something that only Promise Game could.

Rounding Horizon out is the low-key track, “Steamroller.” The slower tempo allows Colin and Adam to let loose on the vocals and give some of the EP’s most soulful and emotional performances. Emo Kids and Elder Emos alike will have this track on repeat.

Horizon is a true evolution for Promise Game, but anyone who has been following them since the early days would see this coming. “Any Reason To Party” gave us hints that Promise Game would blend Pop-Punk and Emo with Alternative to create their truly unique sound that only they could craft. You need to hear Horizon by Promise Game if you haven’t already. It’s a truly transcendent experience that will give Elder Emos a new yet familiar experience that they crave. Promise Game is the sound of the post-Warped Tour world. Add Horizon to your playlist now!
