Review: Very few instrumental covers of Pop music capture the same emotion and energy from its source material, but this is far from the case with Asher Laub’s cover of Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.” Asher’s cover fills your speakers with all the enthusiasm as Adam Levine’s voice, but with the beauty of a violin. The song starts with the familiar background music that’s similar to the original, but then Asher bows the first notes with a sweetness that’ll melt even the hardest of rocks. In the video, you could see the fun Asher is having fun in Las Vegas. Sure, anyone could have fun in Las Vegas, but when was the last time you saw a violin virtuoso rocking out in front of a fountain? Nearly every scene with Asher has him smiling or concentrating on the violin, with incredible passion on his face. His devotion to his instrument is evident as is his natural charisma. Asher makes you want to watch him with his incredible showmanship. Interspersed between scenes of Asher playing are scenes of Las Vegas and all its sights.
Later, the drums kick in and Asher’s melody dances in sync with the beat, making you want to move and sway along. Throughout the song, you’ll hear him harmonize with himself with double-stops, and you’ll listen to awesomely skilled runs that only a master like Asher Laub can perform with such ease and zeal. All through the video, it cuts to Asher playing air violin as he smiles and enjoys himself. He looks like he doesn’t take himself too seriously and is a genuinely fun and likable person that you would enjoy having a beer with. At the end of the video Asher bows, and then it cuts to him giving shoutouts to people who helped him with the video, thus solidifying his authenticity. If you like the original Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” if you like gifted violinists, if you like high-energy and charismatic performances, then you need to watch Asher Laub’s cover of Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.”
