OG Steever changed his life to be a positive influence on the youth of today. See what caused him to change his life for the better and caused him to give us awesome tunes!
OG Steever is a singer-songwriter from Broward County, Florida. He started crafting music as a teen to “feel less alone.” Through his six-year music journey, he’s found a global community of listeners that relate to his emotion-driven sound. With a distinct style chiefly inspired by Hip-hop, Pop, and Punk Rock, it’s no wonder that Steever crossed over 1.2 million streams in 2020. He plans on going harder in the future.
First off, tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
My life truly changed when I was affiliated with a home burglary a few years back that opened my eyes and rid me of my evil past. At that time, I was dealing with a lot of depression from the past. Before the music, I wasted time on girls, and that was the worst mistake I ever made. Now, I use my music as an outlet to keep me happy.
How would you describe your sound?
The music I create is for everyone who feels what I feel. A lot of people refer to it as sad or emo music.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
I take inspirations from XXXTENTACION, Juice WRLD, and Trippie Redd. I feel like I relate to them the most.
What’s the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was “21” by Polo G. He is one of the artists that I’ve been growing fond of lately. He is definitely a legend in the making.
What’s your source for hearing new music?
My source for hearing new music is usually Youtube and Instagram when it has to do with rap/hip hop. But I have been finding other genres such as pop on Tik Tok.
Who is your dream producer?
Currently, I don’t have a dream producer because I think that all the mainstream producers are overrated to an extent. You can find really good producers in the underground scene. As long as the instrumental is fire, it doesn’t matter if the producer is well known or not.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
The only person I would want to collaborate with is Trippie Redd. I also wish I had a chance to collaborate with the late passing XXXTENTACION and Juice WRLD.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
It’s not really who, but it’s more of what inspired me to make music. Growing up, it was hard to express my feelings through talking, so I use my music as an outlet to heal myself emotionally.
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
The way I create my music is always based on emotions, what I’m currently feeling, and experiences that I have gone through.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
I connect with my fans and supporters through Instagram. I will always make sure to try and reply to every fan, no matter how big I get.
Connect with OG Steever via his Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, and through his hyperurl.
“Not Enough” is your most listened to track on Spotify. Do you want to tell your listeners what the song is about? What are your favorite lines on the track?
The song is about a persona of mine where I’m struggling and need help, but no one is there to help, so I turn to violence, hurting others, and end up killing myself to get rid of the pain of being lonely. My favorite lyrics are “I want love but i’m not enough,” That lyric sums up my life.
Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
I plan on influencing millions of lives and inspiring young kids to follow their dreams even if they are the only ones supporting themselves.
