Which son is number one? It’s Number One Sons! Duh! They totally rock and remind me of Green Day! They’re some good ol’ fashioned Pop-Punk!
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
My original drummer and I were camping when we were about 14 and there was a kid there from another family that was like one of Ned Flanders kids. He wore a hat that said Number One Son on it. We laughed about it and it inspired the band name. It’s an oxygen moron. We were and are hoodlums. We’re good hoodlums, but we’re hoodlums.
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
Before I even started talking much I sang Phil Collins and Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. Bad, bad, bad boys you make me feel so good! Haha!
My friends converted me to Nirvana from country at about age 10 and I never looked back. Green Day and the Offspring were forever staples in my collection.
I got a guitar at 13 and started writing my own songs. After the band stopped playing in my early 20s I started a cover band and had some side projects here and there. I really ramped music back up after my divorce in 2018. That’s where you hear all the stuff I play now from.
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as a mix of Green Day, Alkaline Trio, Blink 182, Jimmy Eat world etc. I look to what’s new for influence as well. There is a lot of synthetic bass and subtle synthetic in some of my music. So it’s a combination of nostalgic and relevant.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
Green Day and Alkaline Trio probably. I can’t shake it. Though I have really started letting loose on new material. Some even poppier stuff coming.
What’s the last song you listened to?
KC and JoJo lol. “All My Life”. I was cooking dinner and my fiance was on the way home. I wanted to make her smile when she came in. It was ridiculous.
What’s your source for hearing new music?
Spotify is what I use 90% of the time.
Who is your dream producer?
I mean, John Feldman, duh! Rob Cavallo is also intriguing. Butch Vig. That’s off the top of my head.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Billie Joe Armstrong. The guy is my hero. Everything I know about him and what he believes is inspiring and relatable.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
I’ve always loved it. I think my love grew even more in my teens.
If I had no one, thank God I do, I’d still have music. It quiets the noise in my head. When words can’t express how I feel I can play a guitar. And sometimes still get frustrated at it lol.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
I usually like to try for a feel. I find I start with music usually and add lyrics. Sometimes Ill come up with some decent instrumentals, but you have to have motivation for a song. Context.
I’ve thrown a lot of good sounding stuff to the side because lyrical inspiration didn’t hit.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
A live show is the best way. I find it difficult on social media. Videos can be the most effective to provide something more interactive more tangible. It’s such a vulnerable experience though.
A live show is the best way in my opinion. I feel no qualms on stage. I love to perform and engaging with the audience.

What’s next for you?
A Bob Dylan Cover in November, 2 shows to end the year and an Ep. We’ll have a full length album potentially next springish.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I love music, but it can be difficult at times. I have to remind myself to enjoy all aspects of my life and pay attention to what my body and mind are telling me. Everyone, take care of yourself.
