Guffery is hitting the Rap scene hard, and it’ll never be the same! He’s working hard to change it for the better! Let’s see what he has to say!
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
– The name was given to me by a friend at school as a joke, started out as Guff, and over time it evolved into a lot of variations until everyone around me settled on Guffery or Guff.
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
– I used to write raps when I was in my pre-teens, they were not good… then in my 20’s I started freestyling with my friend Erok Foret, we would have these huge sessions, 2-4 hours long, and from there I was able to develop a style, and he helped me hone it into what it is today. He’s also been helping me with my current project. Having another producer/rapper help you out with everything is a great privilege.
How would you describe your sound?
-I try to blend everything that I like into my songs, kind of dark, introspective, but at the same time relatable, and I want people to be able to turn the speakers up and let it bang. So, lyricism, and a message. I talk a lot about mental health, I struggle with that, so my current project is tapping into the bi-polar side of what I deal with, sometimes Im happy-go-lucky, other times I dont want to see anyone! Also, I love horror movies, so I add a lot of that into it!
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
– Man, there’s so many. Erok, Woods, Deltron, Madchild, lllab, Cyne Czarface
What’s the last song you listened to?
– I’ve moved into the final phase of my project “Reclusive” so I haven’t been listening to much, but I think the last one was “Stay with me Baby” by Duffy.
What’s your source for hearing new music?
– I mostly browse through youtube, theres some channels/producers that I really dig, FatCat Beats, and Marlow Digs, and I just keep them on rotation.
Who is your dream producer?
-I think SkiBeatz, Rob the Viking, Exile, 7XL
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
-Swollen Members or Czarface. That would be a lot o fun.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
-I’ve just always enjoyed it, and wanted to do it, and my motivation is that my story isn’t done, and I like challenging myself
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
-Typically, I have an idea, then find an instrumental on youtube, and write. After I record the vocals, I usually build an entire new beat.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
-My music is mostly on Soundcloud at the moment.
