Free Friends are a favorite here at Moosic Entertainment and we’re delighted that they told us the story of their song “Last Flight!”
Last Flight Story
By Ben Dehan of Free Friends
I wrote ‘Last Flight’ during a short break from touring last summer. We had just finished watching the last season of Stranger Things, and I really wanted to capture that 80s Alt/Synth Pop vibe in something new. At the time, I was feeling incredibly burnt out and like nothing I was doing was working or ever would. I felt pain, numbness, and hopelessness – a perfect combination for inevitable suicidal thoughts, which I seem to be too lazy to act on when I do have them.

As a side note, I think like most of us, I don’t really want to end my life. I just want the pain – the lifelong pattern, outcome, behavior, belief – to go away or change into something beautiful rather than malignant. I just wanted an escape – not from what I was doing, but from my perceived incompetence at becoming and being who I wanted to be. Maybe I wanted to escape the voice in my head that says I’ll never be enough. I just wanted to be free from that pain, to fly away.
