Six Impossible Things – “Most of the time is one of us writing a song with just an acoustic guitar or piano.” – Interview

Six Impossible Things took the time out to answer our questions about their music and how they make it. Let see what they say!

First off, what’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?

It’s a quote from Alice Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll. We’re both fans of the author and it was the first thing we had in common when searching for a name.

Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years

We started as a duo and we came from very different musical worlds. We started playing some acoustic music, the likes of City and Colour and stuff like that, and writing songs in that style. Through the years we added electric guitars and keys, to create a sound closer to the slowcore and dream pop bands of the 90s.

How would you describe your sound?

‘Dreamy’ is always the first word that comes to our mind but, talking about our new EP, we always like to look at it as a ‘Title Fight meets Lana Del Rey’ kind of sound.

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

Boygenius, Nothing and, for this new record, Ethel Cain was definitely the main one.

What’s the last song you listened to?

‘kisses’ by Slowdive.

What’s your source for hearing new music?

Spotify is our main source lately but we also use Bandcamp and Soundcloud.

Who is your dream producer?

Will Yip.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

Probably Deafheaven.

What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it

Firstly our parents, they’re big music fans. Also, in our hometown, there has always been a really strong punk scene, that helped us to take the first steps when talking about joining a band, making records and touring.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

Most of the time is one of us writing a song with just an acoustic guitar or piano. Then we start working together on the song structure, we add vocal harmonies and arrangements until it feels right to us.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to

connect with you?

We post on Instagram a lot, it’s really helpful to let people know about your releases, tours, etc. We also have a mailing list for our inner circle but the easiest way to connect with people, especially in music, is always going to live shows and meet them in real life (it’s funnier too).

What’s next for you?

We’re going to release our third EP “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living” in the next months, and maybe another single before that. Other than that our plan is to play as much shows as we can.

Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?

We would like to thank you for the opportunity, it has been a pleasure to chat with you. Thank you so much from the both of us and hope to see ya soon.

Nicky and Lorenzo.
