Glass Generation took a moment to answer our questions about their music and how they make it. Let’s see what they have to say!
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
There isn’t really a story or meaning behind why we chose Glass Generation; at least not one that stuck. We did want to come up with a name that no one had used yet and that was ear-catching, but overall solid.
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
I got heavy into pop punk around middle school/early high school. I always had an interest in playing guitar and my parents were asking me if I wanted to take lessons; but I was having trouble in school so I knew I wouldn’t really like taking lessons from a guitar teacher. Green Day was my first band fixation and that lead me to actually taking guitar seriously. I would spend hours learning Green Day songs and learning how Billie Joe holds and strums his guitar.
How would you describe your sound?
Pop punk with emo and 90’s influence. Like if Joyce Manor and Modern Baseball were a single band formed in the 90s.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
Blink and Green Day for sure. But we are always listening to music and taking influence from stuff we like.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Chrysanthemum by One Step Closer
What’s your source for hearing new music?
Spotify
Who is your dream producer?
We never really had one. Mostly because we weren’t looking into who was producing the records we loved. But it worked out, we found Alex Estrada (Joyce Manor, Touché Amore, etc) who honestly felt heaven-sent. Like we always say we’ve never worked with anyone else, but we can’t see ourselves working with anyone other than Alex.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Oh man that’s tough, I feel like we could make something crazy with Mat Kerekes or Barry Johnson
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
I was in a situation where I was put between playing in the band and living a life that someone was planning out for me; and I knew that I wouldn’t have a second chance to make music again. What keeps it going is knowing that I’m beginning to see myself in a better place knowing I chose to make music
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
There isn’t just one way. Sometimes I’ll have a song 85% done and the band helps smooth out the rest, or one of us has a chord progression we all work around. For this next record we wrote a whole song based off a feeling I wanted to give off in the studio with Alex.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
I always try to talk with people who come to our shows, whether they came for us or not. But the best way to connect with us is Spotify and Instagram. I’m always responding to comments/DMs, plus we’re releasing a lot of new music over the summer!

What’s next for you?
So much. We’re headlining the Whisky a Go Go on August 13th with our homies, we have a new EP coming out in September, planning a tour for next summer and might even be heading to Europe for a few shows.
Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
Thank you for taking the time to talk with us, and thank you to everyone that streamed our music, came to a show or just chatted with us after our set. “Never Better” comes out September 22nd and we can’t wait for you to hear it.
