Kendra & the Bunnies – “It’s all about inspiration for me. I let the music roll through my mind into my notes app, into my journal, into my camera roll or voice memos.” – Interview

Kendra & the Bunnies took a moment to answer our questions about their music and how they make it. Let’s see what they have to say!

First off, is there a story behind your name?

I’m so glad you asked. Kendra & the Bunnies comes from my love for Alice in Wonderland and soft bunnies. Bunnies remind me of abundance and world peace. Those things are very important to me. When I heard the song “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane for the first time, rock ‘n roll really clicked for me.

Tell us about your musical past. Would you tell us about your early years?

I started my musical journey doing musical theatre, vocal lessons, and choir. I’ve been acting my entire life. I started at like 4 years old. Then in high school, I started singing rock music. I started playing the guitar kinda then too. Playing the guitar and string instruments like ukulele and the mandolin have really helped with my mental health. It’s amazing.

How would you describe your sound?

happy, enlightening, emotionally connected, and magicK 😉

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

Kim Petras, Phish, The Grateful Dead, Britney Spears, DJ Screw, CCR, and Beyonce.

What’s the last song you listened to?

I’m listening to the instrumental version of my song “Lucky Girl” right now, but before that, the last song I listened to was … “It Ends Tonight” by The All American Rejects.

What’s your source for hearing new music?

I let the universe bring new music to me, and I follow my favs!

Who is your dream producer?

Dr. Dre

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

Trey Anastasio

What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?

Music saved me from self-loathing, which manifests for me as alcoholism. I’m motivated to keep making it, because I think in melody and poetry.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

It’s all about inspiration for me. I let the music roll through my mind into my notes app, into my journal, into my camera roll or voice memos.

I have a lot of good ideas. Writing is the root of my joy.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?

By smiling. I swear. I am so happy to be on the stage, I’m smiling naturally. Like cheesing! People love it. I love that they love it. The easiest way to connect with me is by Instagram and via crystal ball!

What’s next for you?

I have my next album ready to be recorded. I have a performance in September in Houston, TX at Rice University’s first football game of the season, and when I get back to LA. I’m going to record my next LP, “The Politics of”. I’m so thrilled. I also have a book of poetry published under the same title. September 29, I am playing at The Viper Room in the acoustic lounge.

Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
