New Saviors took a moment to answer our questions about their music and how they make it! Let’s see what they have to say!
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
It’s kinda funny a lot of people think it’s religious. But in fact it’s the opposite. The world we live in today is full of false idols and gutless leaders. The idea of New Saviors is to give ourselves and our fans something to believe in and relate too.
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
I myself, (Zack) have been playing shows since 2004. I played in a few local bands over the years. I had a lot of fun playing the VFW’s and American Legion weekenders and gained a ton of experience doing so. The little tour hacks and tricks you learn are priceless when you’re out there in it.
How would you describe your sound?
We’re not really you’re average band. We joke a lot that we could play separate sounding sets on the same bill We like to incorporate dark/heavy elements into our sound but also very much like to rock. We just throw a little bit of everything in the mix. And it’s kind of become our signature sound.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
For everyone it’s different I’m sure. But for me it’s seeing a lot the core bands I grew up listening to reinventing themselves and getting a whole new cycle out of what they worked so hard to build. Bands like Ateryu, Sliverstein, Ice Nine Kills, For The Fallen Dreams, Sleeping with Sirens, Papa Roach, In This Moment, etc.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Crossfade – Cold
What’s your source for hearing new music?
Spotify. I trying to keep up with the newer stuff on the curated playlists. I’m not a super fan of a lot of the newer stuff but I try to keep a open mind and fresh ears for it. There are a lot of killer new artists out there if you’re willing to weed through and find them.
Who is your dream producer?
A guy named Johnny Andrews in Atlanta. The man is a song writing genius. Great mind of the business.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Ozzy. Black Sabbath is my church.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
When I was in like 5th grade my dad bough be a Squire P bass in that metallic blue color that all cheap things that you want to look appealing usually come in. I was obsessed with Green Day and Blink 182 so I just wanted to learn “When I Come Around” and “Stay Together For the Kids”. I ended up switching to guitar eventually. Fast forward 20 something years later I’m still doing it. Kinda a creature of habit at this point. I’ve done it so long it’s a comfort thing to me. My life is weird without it in it.
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
In New Saviors it usually starts with me coming up with a riff or idea that I’ll build the song around. Our Bassist Steve does all our recording and also writes for the band he’s written quite a few of our songs. We’ll stew on it for a while and sometimes enlist my good friend Jerry Wisner of Spoken to help out with production ideas. Usually by this point Mick has a good start on the lyrical and vocal plan for the song. Once it’s all tracked we send it out for mix and master then throw it in your lap!
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
Any way we can. We talk to them daily. Were everywhere online. We’re at the merch table at the shows. We’re never hard to find. We love to engage with our fans.
