Moosic: Do you have a story behind your artist name? Why did you decide to use your own name?
Adam Sherman: When I was about to enter kindergarten I asked my parents if I could be called by my middle name, Adam, instead of my first name which I didn’t care for. I won’t share the first name they gave me, but I will say Adam has served me well throughout my life.
Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?
I fell in love with music when I saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. I began writing songs and playing guitar at age eight and continued into my adulthood. I write everyday and music is the center of my life.
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?
Meaningful, honest lyrics paired with memorable melodies. Mellow, sad and articulate with a warmth that relies on folk as well as rock.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?
My guitar has always been my point of departure. My lyrics and melodies begin with chord patterns on the guitar. I allow the music to lead me to the lyrical content rather than relying on the intellect.
What inspires you to write music?
Events I experience in my life inspire my songs. Love, heartbreak, sorrow, joy, and current events all guide my creative process.
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?
My current EP is a collection of four songs that span a series of emotional states — thankfulness, heartbreak, emotional support, and new love. It’s called Nowhere But Here and it’s out on March 28, with the release party the next night at Club Passim in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Two songs from the EP, “Gratitude” (out February 28) and “Pure As Yours,” are currently available on Bandcamp.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?
I’d like listeners to respond to the warmth and kindness of my lyrics. Even my saddest songs have compassion for humanity. If a listener can find themselves in my songs then I feel I have done my job.
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?
Lucinda Williams, Nick Cave, and Bob Dylan.
What’s the easiest way for fans to connect with you?
Well… come to a gig and say “hi.” My website, adamshermanmusic.com, or my Bandcamp page are excellent ways to get in touch.

What’s next for you?
Literally next is the aforementioned live gig at the legendary Club Passim in Cambridge to celebrate the release of my EP. I’ll be back in the recording studio in April to begin work on a new series of songs.
Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
I’m also a visual artist. Painting and graphic design are passions of mine, in addition to music.
