Objects in Motion – “We call our sound “lush gauze.” Picture yourself in an ocean covered by layers of fabric, playing with the sound of the water and the air and the flow of sand” – Interview

Moosic Entertainment: Do you have a story behind your band name?

Objects in Motion: We each contributed a series of name options and Objects in Motion was the one we could all agree on. We like the feeling of abstractness and movement, and the concept of being outside oneself. It has an otherworldly quality to it while remaining firmly grounded in the core laws of physics. We’re all objects in motion at the end of the day, aren’t we? Moving from place to place at different speeds, with different intentions, but still moving nonetheless. Until one day, we aren’t.

Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?

The three of us – michael lantow (guitar), Dan Angolano (bass), Vinda Souza (vocals) – have different musical journeys that have led us to a similar place and it’s a braid of varying colors and compositions. Dan started as a pianist before focusing on drums and later bass, which he fell in love with. michael started playing guitar as a child and grew into songwriting and solo work, and he’s released several EPs that are sonically dynamic and compelling. Vinda was classically trained as a soprano and also studied Carnatic music through her mother, an accomplished Carnatic singer, and later found herself switching from madrigals to chest-blaring rock covers before discovering that she could parlay her lifelong career as a writer into writing original songs and lyrics. Our diverse backgrounds and journeys have led us to a place where merging layers and arrangements and experiments and instruments and narrative commentary create something lush and emotionally evocative.

How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?

We call our sound “lush gauze.” Picture yourself in an ocean covered by layers of fabric, playing with the sound of the water and the air and the flow of sand. Colors are muted and sound washes over you with every passing wave.

What drew you to the genre/instruments you’re playing right now?

We all have passion for our primary instruments but aren’t exclusively wedded to them. We love the idea of playing with expectations and changing/trading/adding/removing instruments dynamically to suit the song and to suit our headspace.

What inspires you to write music?

There is a feeling inside all of us that can only be satiated when released into sound and word.

Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?

We released our debut EP, inside outside upside downside, in July 2026 and we’re excited to promote our first-ever music video for the single, “River Road,” which hits YouTube on October 27.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?

Enjoyment. However you want to enjoy the music is valid. Whether it’s appreciating the arrangement, the mixing, the lyrics, the feeling it gives you, the names of the songs – it’s all valid.

Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?

Our favorite song is “River Road” – sorry, what was the question?

Who is your dream producer?

Hard to think of a better producer to work with than Brad Krieger at Big Nice Studio, who created such a warm and inviting environment for us to record our EP. He brought out our best selves, and in return, our best sound.

Bio:
Objects in Motion is a Boston-based original indie group reinterpreting early ‘90s shoegaze into something darker, lusher, and appropriately reflective of modern chaos. Formed in the summer of 2024, Objects in Motion blends social commentary, lush textural soundscapes, and alt-rock sensibilities to create music that feels both independent and thoroughly listenable. This contrast is driven by the personalities and perspectives of the band members, all of whom contribute to the creative process, resulting in songs that are narratively complex, earnest, and approachable. A three-piece comprised of Dan Angolano (bass), michael lantow (guitar), and Vinda Souza (vocals/lyrics), the band is joined by a roster of celebrated local drummer friends who bring an element of surprise to every live performance. Debut EP inside outside upside downside arrived in Summer 2026, followed by a music video for lead single “River Road” in October.
