Do you have a story behind your artist name?
It originated after one of our first recording sessions circa 2019. Bobby and I (Colin) were wrapping up when we started brainstorming possible name ideas. We were looking for a cool name that stuck out in its own way and sounded dark. It was a pretty classic case of “once we heard it we knew”. We found a new motivation after we had a name. Our debut single “Phantom Grace” was dropped shortly after.
Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?
We’re currently living in the IS 2.0 era and are stoked to be working on our best music yet. It’s taken a lot of patience over the last five years to build our name and find our style. We’ve played quite a few shows and each one keeps us wanting to play a bigger one. It’s motivating to know that we actually have fans out there waiting for our next move. Having that pressure almost forces you to grow and makes you try your best to create new ideas.
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?
We have the heavy songs for the finely tuned metal listeners and some clean vocals with catchy choruses to sing along with. There’s a healthy mix of songs for everyone on the upcoming album.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?
We’ve all grown up around music, going to shows, and got exposed early on. All of us come from different musical backgrounds, but our roots are embedded in this genre. Personally, I got inspired to scream when I first started going to shows and watching my favorite artists growing up.
I took Bobby to his first show (Underoath & TDWP) back in 7th grade. Both of us knew from then on that we wanted to do something like that one day. Matt and Graham have been in multiple bands throughout their careers in music.
What inspires you to write music?
We get inspired by other bands that are pushing the boundaries of the genre. We’re also motivated by listening, following producers/musicians and doing our best to adopt their work ethic. We find lyrical inspiration from personal events, experiences, or influences in the real world.
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?
“Undertaker” is the first single we’ve released with our new members Matt and Graham. It’s been almost a year since our last single release of “World Fire”. Since then, the band feels like a slightly different character with the new lineup, but we’re still true to our core. This song is a fresh slate and a first taste of what we have brewing for our listeners.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?
We hope they can find our lyrics relatable in one way or another. Each song holds a different meaning with underlying messages. Hopefully the experience is good enough to tell a friend!
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?
Imminence
Currents
Angelmaker
What’s the easiest way for fans to connect with you?
We’re on all the socials and reply to all the dms we can! It’s fun to hear from fans all around the world and how they found out about us. Also, we’re going to film more content for our YouTube channel. Be sure to tune in there!
What’s next for you?
We’ll be dropping more singles leading up to our full-length album, hopefully by the end of the year. We’re going to try and play shows in as many new places as possible. We hope to hit new territory for the fans that haven’t been able to see us yet with a couple tours around New England.
Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?

Bio: In Shallows is a four piece metalcore band based out of New Hampshire. With the release of their first single “Phantom Grace” in June of 2021, the band confidently planted themselves in the heavy music scene. They quickly followed it up with a five song EP “Beneath The Surface”, that delivers in-your-face breakdowns and heavy guitar riffs. Paired with the ever so sweet mixture of scream and singing vocals, In Shallows is determined to drill their lyrics into listeners’ heads.
Following the success of their EP, the band was eager to push the limits a little further. They teamed back up with their producer/recording engineer Robbie Litchfield at Hell Here Studios where they recorded and released a handful of new singles which caught the attention of many new listeners.
After playing shows all around New England, the band is eager to continue reaching as many new fans as possible. With a full length album on the horizon, it’s safe to say In Shallows isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
