Do you have a story behind your artist name?
It’s a bit of a funny story. We were called ‘Taylor Simpson and The Wishful Feeling’ for a few years. On our first tour years ago, we quickly realized how long the name really was and how it never really fit anywhere on marquees/chalkboards etc. So we knew we needed to shorten the name. Wishwell came as kind of a shorter version or ‘Wishing you well” or “Wishing Well” which we all felt captured the essence of what the band was all about!
Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?
We’ve been a band for 4 and a half years now. Played probably close to 100 shows give or take. So much has happened and changed throughout the years. I think we’ve all grown a lot as artists and as people. Even our sound has evolved over that time too. It’s been quite a journey, but I feel our best chapters are yet to come!
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?
I would say, uplifting fun melodies, sonically energetic as well, with very heartfelt and emotional lyrics. We have never been a band that wants to focus on just one or two genres. We like to branch out and try different things within the “rock” “alternative” “folk” umbrella. Crying on the dance floor kind of vibes haha.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?
It’s interesting, all of us come from such different musical backgrounds and we all come together to make Wishwell songs. Sunny, our guitar player is heavily inspired by John Mayer and other classic guitar players like that – he’s a big folk or folk rock guy. Nick, our bassist, is a big pop punk guy – he loves Green Day. I (Taylor) lead singer am kind of all over the place genre wise, I’m inspired by emo music, metal, folk, rock, alternative and even pop/hip hop. We all grew up loving music and wanting to play in a band and we each gravitated towards the instruments we play pretty naturally.
What inspires you to write music?
For me personally (Taylor) it’s mostly about my mental health experiences I’ve had throughout the years or even what I’m currently going through. It stems from trying to get my emotions out on paper and out of my head. My hope is that the things I write about/sing about, are things people can hopefully relate to in a way and just know that they’re not alone in their struggles.
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re
promoting?
Ya, we’ve got a new single coming out called ‘Second Guessing’ on Oct 10th. It’s all about dealing with confidence issues and beating yourself up over things, but also realizing in the process that you can overcome adversity and you are worth it! We’ll have a few more singles coming out next year (2026) followed by our third full length album in the fall!
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?
We want them to feel less alone in this crazy world. We want to create a fun loving and safe community for our listeners! We want them to listen to our stories, challenges and tribulations and see us come out of it, to hopefully motivate them, that they can beat their demons too!
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your
favorite song right now?
Ouu great question, I know Sunny would say Dawes, Nick would probably say Green Day and for me (Taylor) I would say Silverstein, Momma and Dayseeker!

What’s next for you?
We’re going on a Mental Health Charity Tour here in Canada, the first day is Oct 10th! We start in Ottawa/Montreal then work our way down to Windsor! $1 from every ticket sold will be donated to Heartsupport (a non profit mental health organization) who provides free mental health services for people in need! Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
Yes! We’re actually ending that tour off with a mini festival that we started last year called One Beat! We’ve partnered up with Heartsupport again for the show that’ll be happening November 29th in Toronto at The Ivy! Again, $1 from every ticket sold will be donated to Heartsupport! We’ll have cool interactive rooms (podcast room and a support wall room where people can write messages on the wall and connect with each other). We’ll be performing alongside our friends in The High Loves and Yellow Magnolia. Should be a fun night and we can’t wait to build a cool and safe community through this event!
