Do you have a story behind your artist name? I have been in a lot of bands, but they always break up for various reasons, so I decided moving forward to go by “Brett Copeland” – That way my band never breaks up…
Tells us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you? I started singing in the church choir and never turned back. I have always been a singer and performer. It’s something that comes most naturally to me. Over the years, I have received more accolades and opportunities – I am proud of that because it all stems from never giving up. I’m always working on my craft and I love performing for people.
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it? High-energy, arena-ready rock with a classic edge and a modern bite. It’s the kind of music that makes you feel alive — raw vocals, big hooks, and a sense of urgency that doesn’t let go.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now? Rock has always felt like home. It’s where emotion meets power, and it’s the language that made sense to me since I was a teenager. There’s something about turning life’s struggles into a wall of sound that connects people — and I wanted to be right in the middle of that.
What inspires you to write music? Life. The struggles, the victories, the moments where you feel like you can’t go on but push through anyway. My new single “I Wanna Live” was inspired by my guitarist and co-writer, who beat cancer twice. That fight, that will to live, is what music is about to me — capturing survival and turning it into something people can hold onto. But I am also just as inspired by classic literature and fun stories.
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting? Right now I’m promoting “I Wanna Live” — a hard-hitting rock anthem about resilience, survival, and choosing life when the odds are stacked against you. It’s the first release in a series of new solo material I’m recording with some of Los Angeles’ top musicians. The track also has an official music video out now, which captures the energy and message of the song.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music? I want people to feel stronger. To remember that no matter what they’re facing, they can get through it. If my music makes someone feel like they’re not alone and gives them a spark to keep going, then I’ve done my job.
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now? Mozart, Thelonious Monk/Herbie Hancock/Miles Davis, and The Beatles.
