Moosic: Do you have a story behind your artist name?
Sandy: Well, Sandy is my real name! I chose not to use a stage name because I think my name isn’t one you hear very much anymore, and I’ve been using it on the internet for 10 or 11 years now!
Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?
I think in learning music, and learning to write, I’ve really fallen in love and gained respect for so many different styles. My music journey has also given me a better appreciation for my own voice and sound, and allowed me to accept the traits that make me an individual …it’s really a cool thing.
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?
I think my guitar playing sounds like it’s very influenced by progressive rock….because it is. That’s one of my absolute favorite genres and the chord progressions I choose to write are very often influenced by that.
Vocally… I really couldn’t tell ya! My biggest vocal influences are Meat Loaf and David Cassidy… which, I know, have nothing to do with each other AT all… but I imagine that very likely impacts my sound.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?
My guitar is my LOVE. Throughout my life, all roads have led me back to my guitar… so I’m sticking with it!
What inspires you to write music?
Internally there’s something that tells me I have to. Sometimes songs are based on my emotions, sometimes they’re based on things I’ve seen, and sometimes I just want to tell a story!
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?
My very first album just came out on SandyLand Records, and it’s called Issues. It’s an acoustic album consisting of 14 songs I wrote and performed. There are many different styles on the album, but all performed as just me and an acoustic guitar.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?
I want listeners to think… reconsider opinionations… in a world where media, politicians, advertisements, and celebrities are telling you to choose their side, and so many support the idea that “it’s okay to hate as long as you are correct.” I think it is so important to re-evaluate constantly, and do what is best for ourselves, without hurting anybody.
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?
EASY — Styx, Zeppelin, and Meat Loaf.
