Supergroup trio UltraBomb cut through the white noise of banality with sophomore LP The Bridges That We Burn. Backed by decades of experience and respective accolades, UltraBomb delivers an urgent call to endure and continue to fight for a better tomorrow.
Released on May 1, The Bridges That We Burn is built on the alt-rock and post-punk lineage of its members that sound fresh and absolutely effortless. Consisting of Greg Norton (Hüsker Dü), Derek O’Brien (Social Distortion/Agent Orange), and Ryan Smith (Soul Asylum), the band have blended the best parts of their past triumphs and funneled them into this new era-belending project.
Recorded in just 4 days and produced by John Fields, The Bridges That We Burn tows that precarious line between the direct immediacy of punk and tongue-in-cheek smile of satire. Balancing dissonance with melody, UltraBomb delivers each track with blistering accuracy that encourages the listener to find meaning through the rampant distractions and obstacles of today’s current state.
“Darwin Awards” kicks off the album with a melodic and super-powered pop rock anthem about the self-destructive nature of modern western society. The album opener perfectly encapsulates that album with its striking subject matter set against addictive harmony and anthemic choruses. The first taste of the album came with the release of “Artificial Stars” that encouraged listeners to look up at the real night sky and reconnect with the world – and settle for nothing less. Utilizing the experience of each member’s respective musical histories takes the album down paths of hardcore (“BSS”), post-rock (“Sicko Rants”), and classic rock (“Look Forward In Anger”).
On The Bridges That We Burn, UltraBomb have found an even higher level of cohesiveness and musicianship producing one of the best albums of 2026 so far. Inspired by the many obstacles and distractions that plague our day-to-day, The Bridges That We Burn shines a much needed light on remaining cautiously positive and always finding humour in the darkest of times.
