The debut album from Feura is an explosive exposé about the wild abandon that comes with living authentically and holding systemic institutions accountable for their narrow and destructive aims. Released May 22, Lose Your Head is filled with a lived-in perspective delivered sharply and embodies what punk really is – it is strength, it is support, it is chaos, and it is community.
Since releasing the scorching and satirical “Zuck Me Off” in 2022, Feura quickly established their laser-focus on stripping away the forced kakistocracy perverting the world, and does so in a way that is both fun and furious. On Lose Your Head, Feura fully expands their perspective to address the world that surrounds them, as well as all the ebbs and flows that exist within. Track for track, Feura reclaims the narrative and channels anthemic power that feels uniquely individual, but openly accessible to anyone who has felt excluded.
A collection of 10 songs, Lose Your Head mixes alt-pop, punk, new-wave, and even some frenzied banjo into an eclectic mix of sounds that are unified in its journey. Feura’s lyricism and delivery is sharp, thematic, and switches from playful to punchy in a dizzying amount of time. Composed of Feura’s previous 2 EPs plus new songs “You’re The Good” and titular track “Lose Your Head”, the album strikes honestly from the heart.
Lose Your Head is about defying the instinct to conform to appease the gaze of the majority, and most importantly, it’s about the power that comes from shedding the fear of judgement.
“Lose Your Head came from this feeling that no matter what I do, people will find a reason to react to me just existing,” Feura says. “I’m queer, BIPOC, East Asian, and a Type 1 diabetic, and whether I want to define myself by those labels or not, they’ve always shaped how people treat me. So, at a certain point it became: Screw it. If people are going to lose their minds over me anyway, I’m going to be fully myself. This record comes from that switch.”
As a debut, Lose Your Head by Feura swings hard, aims true, and makes contact that leaves an indelible mark. This new, elevated Feura is someone that cannot and should not be ignored.
