It’s About Time For An Anti-Banal Bop: Charming Arson release new single “The Wednesday of my discontent”.

Adding slick musicality and charming mysticism to the innocuous dreg of the average week, Charming Arson’s “The Wednesday of my discontent” is a power-pop toe-tapper that tackles the impossible – adding depth to Wednesdays. Released on June 19, the first single of 2026 from the Boston-based band finds poetry in the painfully ordinary and strives to add some mystery to the mid-week hurdle.

Most bands would avoid pulling inspiration from Shakespeare’s tragic history play Richard III and the generally disliked Wednesday, but Charming Arson have nothing to fear when they have rock’n’roll whimsy and a “why-the-hell-not” attitude. Underneath the catchy pop sensibilities and expansive alt-rock tones, “The Wednesday of my discontent” is about finding something majestic in the mundane and a deep desire to seek out something elusive in the passing of each day that feels like a week. Charming Arson creates music that draws from “what if” scenarios and captures curiosity without becoming unhinged – something akin to The Tubes without chewing Kava root or huffing paint thinner.

The harmonizing guitars, accentuated drum patterns and thrumming bass create a swirling and rich sonic texture that envelops the listener in something recognizable, but ultimately unlike anything that came before it. “The Wednesday of my discontent” is rock for a sondering mind – music that makes the listener aware that every element that surrounds them, regardless of how arbitrary it may have seemed before, carries a secret history of its own. As most days of the week come and go at a sub-excitement frequency, Charming Arson challenges the listener to experience fully what makes at least one day different from the rest – even if that means finding new depths of Wednesday-level ennui.

Charming Arson channels their eccentricity and finely-tuned musicianship into “The Wednesday of my discontent” that adds a much needed punchiness to the bore of everyday pedestrianism. The latest single is dramatic, tightly-arranged, and odd enough to hold even the faintest of interests. “The Wednesday of my discontent” is an anti-banal bop that doesn’t take itself too seriously while also pulsing with an energy to break away from crushing normality. Go ahead, get a little weird every Wednesday.
