GARRETT ANTHONY RICE LETS “SPARKING WATERFALLS” SPILL OUT

The song gives itself time, letting its emotional weight build without force

Sparking Waterfalls” is the latest release from Garrett Anthony Rice’s forthcoming double album Equinox, a song built around the way ordinary moments can become permanent memories. The track was inspired by a story shared with Rice by a middle aged friend, who recalled sneaking into his father’s garage at night in rural Ireland during the 1960s to watch him repair vehicles. Hidden away in the quiet of the evening, he watched the sparks from his father’s welding torch illuminate the darkness. Years later, after his father’s sudden passing at a young age, those sparks became something more: a fragment of time preserved, a reminder of a person who could no longer be reached.
The arrangement opens wide, drawing from a palette that nods gently toward modern alt country while carrying the spaciousness that has become a defining part of Rice’s work. There is a patient quality to the song, one that allows melodies and phrases to unfold naturally rather than rushing toward a conclusion. Much like the memory at its centre, “Sparking Waterfalls” is less concerned with arriving somewhere quickly than with remaining inside a moment long enough to understand its meaning.

At just under six minutes, “Sparking Waterfalls” allows itself room to wander. The melody moves through unexpected turns, with Rice’s phrasing occasionally stretching beyond traditional song structures. Rather than feeling overly polished, that sense of movement gives the track the feeling of a memory being reconstructed in real time. There is a quiet ache beneath the surface, a recognition that the smallest details often become the ones we hold onto most tightly.
As another entry leading toward Equinox, “Sparking Waterfalls” introduces a softer but equally significant emotional landscape within the album’s broader arc. Where previous singles have explored darker themes of conflict, loss, and uncertainty, this track finds its power in remembrance. It captures the strange way a sound, an image, or a brief flash of light can outlast the moment itself, carrying the presence of someone long after they are gone.

About Garrett Anthony Rice:

Hailing from County Dublin, Ireland, and now living in Greystones, County Wicklow, for the last twenty years with his family, Garrett Anthony Rice intends to make a significant impact on the global music scene in 2025.
EQUINOX is the first double album (18 songs) to be released by a debut solo artist as their second record in musical history, so the task of writing and completing this record was pretty daunting and enormous.

Garrett released his debut album under the alias of (i) CONSULT in October 2023, entitled “Reflections Part II, the very best of……” which was streamed in 93 countries and piqued the interest of UK producer Chris Potter (The Rolling StonesPaul McCartneyU2 and The VerveRichard Ashcroft) in late 2023.
Out of a possible 30 recorded demos, 18 were selected and recorded throughout 2024, both in the UK and Ireland and already, the well-known and esteemed music professionals who worked on this record and who have heard it are lauding this album as the record of this year.

My Sons” was the first single from the record released on 28 February 2025which Garrett wrote for Mrs. Peggy Gallagher, mother of OASIS’ Liam and Noel, when they were still estranged. The song ties into the other diverse themes on the album, which industry professionals are already touting as one of the best Irish albums ever made.
His single, “Property (An Ode To Roger Syd Barrett, a genius, 1946-infinity),” is a tribute to Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd, and it attempts to reverse the tired narrative that he was an artist to be pitied and avoided rather than the influential and brilliant songwriter he was.
“EQUINOX” will be available to pre-save closer to the time of release on vinyland all platforms.
