Emily McLoud’s first full-length album, Where I Am Today, stands out for its emotional honesty. This record feels like a steady hand in a chaotic world. It’s intimate, raw, and deeply moving.
McLoud draws from the warmth of Folk, Country, and Bluegrass. Her voice is smooth and soothing, making the music feel like a personal conversation. The verses are close and intimate, while the choruses carry a strong emotional impact. Darden Smith’s production add a rich, natural depth that lets the songwriting stand out without feeling too polished.
McLoud’s experience as a nurse practitioner in hospice and palliative care shapes her music. She explores tough topics like grief and anxiety, but the album is really about what it means to be alive. It shows how we can let go while still holding onto the memories that matter.
The album moves from the anticipatory grief in “What Will I Do” to the sense of freedom in “The River She Runs Wild,” building up to its emotional peak. The last song, “Remedy,” is a deeply vulnerable letter to her children and a beautiful reminder of where to find comfort.
If you’re looking for music that respects the importance of everyday moments, Where I Am Today is worth a listen. It’s a beautiful look at what it means to stay present.

Bio:
Austin songwriter Emily McLoud writes roots-woven songs about the intersections of love, letting go, and the unseen labor of being human. With a background in palliative care and hospice medicine, she has spent her career sitting with people at their most vulnerable, an experience that shapes her songwriting with rare clarity and emotional grounding. Her music blends elements of folk, Americana, and bluegrass, carried by a warm vocal presence and thoughtful lyrical craft.
McLoud’s new album, Where I Am Today, produced by acclaimed songwriter Darden Smith, reflects a year of introspection and transition. Written in a focused twelve-month period, the album explores the humility of parenthood, the ache of anxiety, the contradictions of the American dream, and the tenderness found in love and family. Standout tracks include “Everyone Knows,” “What Will I Do,” “The River She Runs Wild,” and “Remedy.”
With previous releases including her EP Sugar Shine (2022) and several singles, McLoud has become a deeply respected voice in the Central Texas community, performing both as a solo artist and as one half of the Americana duo Silver&Sage. Her work is honest, grounded, and quietly powerful. It is the kind of songwriting that invites listeners into deeper reflection and connection.
