Sledding with Tigers – Come On And Slam

A folk-punk-bluegrass band fronted by the God Faughnder has successfully created an album about Space Jam. You can’t make this up!

Sledding with Tigers is a folk-punk-bluegrass band that started in 2008 from San Diego California. The band as of recording Come On And Slam consists of Dan Faughnder on vocals and acoustic guitar, Samantha Juneman on violin and group vocals, Scout Seshimo on banjo and electric guitar, Ben Levinson on double bass, Matt Smith on trombone and back-up vocals, and Ted Gabbard on group vocals. Dan Faughnder dreamed up the words while he and the rest of the band all worked on the music. Come On And Slam was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ted Gabbard. They’re on Antique Records.

What a concept for a music video!

Sledding with Tigers have set a new precedent for concept albums, and other bands will have a difficult time competing. It didn’t feel like I was only listening to music while enjoying Come On And Slam, but it felt more like a movie experience with a hot soundtrack. At the beginning of many tracks, there were sound clips from scenes in the film that immersed you into the Space Jam universe. The album followed the scenes impressively well and kept the music interesting with the use of genre devices that don’t normally go together. They’re a folk-punk-blue grass band, and they have set the standard for that sound with acoustic and electric guitars, punky vocals, banjos, violins, double bass, and brass. It’s not something you’d hear every day, but it is something you’d want to hear every day. One of the best things that they got right on Come On And Slam was that they highlighted the role Bill Murray played in the film, thank you for that. It certainly isn’t the only thing they got right since the album is a masterpiece of a concept album, but Bill Murray fans could rest assured that they did your boy justice. If you like Space Jam, if you like acoustic punk music, if you love folk and bluegrass, if you like Bill Murray, then you most definitely need to have Come On And Slam in your playlist immediately!

This was too good not to share.
