What happens when you get a legendary punk singer like Blag Dahlia who’s trolling for pussy? You get Ralph Champagne and awesome music!
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
Ralph Champagne is my newest creation, he’s a smooth crooner of retro Americana and lounge songs. I stole the name from celebrity drummer and poodle enthusiast Josh Freese. Then there’s my punk rock name-BLAG with a variety of humorous last names like Blag Dahlia, Blag Jesus, Blag Friday, Blag History Month, etc.! There’s always a nbew goofy name around these parts.
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
My first group was called Suburban Nightmare, we came from Illinois playing 60’s garage and rockabilly kind of stuff. It was mostly about staying high and getting pussy.
How would you describe your sound?
Every genre, all the time.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
The Ramones, the Cramps, The Misfits and Jimmie Rodgers the singing cowboy.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Earth Wind & Fire w- Kenny G- The Way You Move
What’s your source for hearing new music?
Random chance, I still listen to the radio in the car.
Who is your dream producer?
Andy Carpenter can do anything- sing, play any instrument, produce, write songs. The man is a fucking genius.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
The ghost of Frank Zappa.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
The pursuit of vaginas in all their myriad forms. Also, money.
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
The most fun part of the whole operation is songwriter. Youy get to know what happens before anyone else hears it. Then it’s a secret between you and the band. Finally, the gen pop hears it and you move on to another song.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
On stage is where the connection happens. Old school bands like us can still take control of an audience and bend them to our will.

What’s next for you?
The Dwarves have a couple records worth of stuff getting mixed right now for release in 2023. We have a gang of reissues of classic Dwarves LPs like Blood, Guts & Pussy; Come Clean; and Thank Heaven For Little Girls coming out in the next few months. Meanwhile, my solo record Introducing Ralph Champagne is starting to bubble up the charts and my dirty book Highland Falls is out in stores. It’s a Blagstravaganza of low brow entertainment!
