May We Meet Again – “It’s typically easier for us to write lyrics on an instrumental that already lends itself to a certain energy or mood.” – Interview

May We Meet Again took the time to answer some questions about themselves. Let’s see what they have to say!

First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?

Our band’s name, “May We Meet Again”, is part of a quote from a show series that our drummer, Tay, and original vocalist, Taylor Cobbett, both planned to get tattooed. “We had already chosen a name and were both unaware of each other’s plan to get the same tattoo, until discussing our shared love for the show, on the way to our first studio session. We knew it was very last minute, but we had to message our producer, Robbie Litchfield, and let him know that we had made a change to our band’s name. It was too much of a coincidence that we both wanted the same quote tattooed on us, so that’s the name we stuck with.” says Tay.

Tell us about your musical pasts?

Our vocalist, Tyler Fay, started dabbling in both singing and screaming at age 14, influenced by artists such as Chris Roetter and Danny Worsnop. At age 16, after experiencing a vocal blowout, Fay decided to take on serious daily practice as a full-time vocalist in hopes to make a living out of it someday. Our guitarist, James Reda, inspired by artists like Synyster Gates and Elijah Barnett, picked up his first guitar at age 9 but it didn’t quite take at first. After trying out a couple different instruments, James realized at age 15 that guitar was his calling and has stuck with it ever since. Drummer and songwriter, Tay 212, also got his first guitar at age 9 but only began truly learning the ins and outs of music theory at age 13. Although born with a passion for drums, Tay picked up the guitar at age 14 and discovered a new passion for songwriting. It wasn’t until age 17, that Tay would get his first drum kit and begin his search for the members of May We Meet Again.

How would you describe your sound?

We believe our sound is a solid mix of classic throwback 2000’s metalcore and modern 2020 metalcore, but we take inspiration from any and everything. Of course, this is only our debut, and we plan to perfect our craft more and more with every record.

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

Our band’s overall sound draws energy from a vast range of sounds and styles. We draw some inspiration from alternative hip-hop artists, from Chase Atlantic and Blackbear to Scarlxrd and City Morgue. Some inspiration, we find in 2000’s radio classics, like P!NK, Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Kelly Clarkson. Plenty of pop-punk style bands such as Sum 41 and The Story So Far and nu-metal bands from Linkin Park to Slipknot, also play their part in guiding us toward our sound. And last, but certainly not least, there’s the wide array of metalcore and deathcore bands, like Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Born Of Osiris, Like Moths To Flames, Bullet For My Valentine, Crown The Empire, Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, Fit For An Autopsy and the list could go on forever.

What is the last song that each of you has listened to?

Tay: Bullet For My Valentine “Worthless”

Fay: Lorna Shore “Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames”

James: Avenged Sevenfold “Save Me”

What’s your source for hearing new music?

Tay: YouTube

Fay: Tay

James: My friend Logan.

Who is your dream producer?

From the start, the goal was to be able to someday work with producers like Joey Sturgis, Taylor Larson and Howard Benson. However, we have found working with Robbie Litchfield at Hell Here Studios to be its own absolute dream come true.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

We think it would be sick to collaborate with a ton of different artists. Just to name a few, bands like Architects, Chase Atlantic, Saving Vice, Sleeping With Sirens, Northlane, Bullet For My Valentine and Like Moths To Flames could be some awesome collaborations. However, there are plenty of solo artists, such as Scarlxrd, Blackbear, Halsey, Skrillex, Ellie Goulding, Tim Henson and Luke Holland that could also be some cool collaborations. There’s even a handful of producers we think it’d be fun to work with, like Andrew Wade, Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood and Henrik Udd. The list of dream collaborations could go on and on.

What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?

Music has made each of us more alive, feel less alone and like there really is a light at the end of every tunnel. Being mentally, emotionally and spiritually moved by music in a positive way is what brought about the need to create for ourselves. We just hope to do the same for others by genuinely expressing ourselves and letting our stories be told and related to through music and art. We want anyone who feels angry, depressed, empty, worthless or alone to be able to play at least one of our songs and know that they are not alone in what they’re going through and that anyone can overcome anything they set their mind to.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

It’s typically easier for us to write lyrics on an instrumental that already lends itself to a certain energy or mood. This isn’t always the case though. Our songwriting process could go one of two ways. Usually, Tay will bring an instrumental with a few melody ideas to the table, then Fay and James help to fill out the missing pieces. However, sometimes, Fay will bring some lyrics or James will bring a riff to the table. That alone will inspire its own instrumental and be turned into a whole new song.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?

We like to hang out with our scene at live events, whether it’s a festival, a tour or just a weekend show. Even if we’re not performing, you can still catch us at a good handful of different shows. Anyone looking to see what we’re up to can join our Facebook group or follow us on other social media platforms.

What’s next for you?

Our plan is simply to release our debut EP and hit the ground running. From music and videos to merch and artwork, we just want to create as much as we possibly can as artists.
