Angel Star – “Songwriting is our favourite part of the whole process. We usually freestyle and bounce back ideas, until we have come up with something that we both like.” – Interview

Angel Star spent a moment to tell us about their music and their songwriting process. Let us see what they have to say!

First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?

We go by the name of Angel Star.

Angel Star was our late little sisters’ stage name, she was a perfomer who loved singing and dancing. When she passed away we decided to continue her legacy by continuing her/our dream with her stage name.

Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?

We grew up in a musical family; from singing together as a trio at church and perfoming together as a family in house, to being able to release our own music on musical platforms. In the early years we spent time writing, and recording and then we started to release music at a later stage. The dream has always been to release and perform our own music to different audiences and that’s something that we have been doing now.

How would you describe your sound?

As a duo, we believe we are quite versatile with the music we make. We don’t focus on only one genre because we love all different types of music. We love experimenting on the tempo, rhythm and timbre of our music.

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

One main artist that has had the biggest influence on our sound and lyricism is J.Cole. He is an artist that we have been looking up to since we were young; his evolution from the old sound into the new mature sound, has taught us to be more experimental in our own music and to not shy away from saying our story, as it makes us the artists’ that we are.

What’s the last song you listened to?

Tendai – Time of our lives.

What’s your source for hearing new music?

Spotify playlists and social media has been a good source for hearig new music.

Who is your dream producer?

This a tricky question, because we would love to work with a variety of different producers. We would love to work with Mustard and T-minus.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

A dream collaboration would be J.Cole and the incredible SZA.

What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?

Music has always been something we’ve always been good at, and we’ve nurtured it whilst growing up because our parents love singing too. We started from singing together at church and when our little sister passed, it became a therapeutic too, something that kept her memory alive and in our hearts. Therefore, this motivates us to keep making music and sharing our story.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

Songwriting is our favourite part of the whole process. We usually freestyle and bounce back ideas, until we have come up with something that we both like. Its definetly a long process but a fun process, that leads us to making good songs.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?

We mainly connect with our audience through social media, as well as shows and gigs.
