Free Friends released “Last Flight” a while ago, and this review has been a long time coming. In short: It’s an awesome song!
Free Friends’ “Last Flight” has a melancholic yet dancey quality to it. It’s a slow Pop-Punk/Emo jam that still gets you pumped, especially during the chorus that soars and has a sweetness to it that hits you in the feels just right. The cello and electronic sounds add a great deal of interest to “Last Flight.” How many Pop-Punk bands do you know with a cellist?
Ben from Free Friends said the song was a quick and genuine write for him. It sounds like the song flowed out of him in a cathartic release. Ben went on to tell us that he recorded the original vocals on his way out the door to a show in Raleigh. “Last Flight” was truly wanting to come out.
“Last Flight” appears to deal with depression and isolation, while wanting to get back to feeling like you’re okay. The chorus, “And I’ll fly, I’ll fly away from here” isn’t only catchy, but it also tells us that Ben wants to fly away from those negative emotions to his friends.
Fans of 1975, Japanese House, Band Camino, and Angels and Airwaves would love “Last Flight.” If you’re in need of an emotional catharsis, “Last Flight” will hit the spot every time when it comes up in your playlist!
