Moosic: First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
Well, it’s my name, but just shortened. It’s a little easier to digest [laughs]
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
Yea, I grew up going to church and listening to the church choir and eventually joining them. Later, I moved on to bands after learning guitar and made my way around Boston behind different instruments. Mostly guitar but vocals and drums as well.
How would you describe your sound?
Indie. Folk rock. Experimental. I like being different, and I try not to sound like everyone else.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
My Morning Jacket. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Jimi Hendrix. Jim Croce.
What’s the last song you listened to?
“Linger and Cover” by Royal Otis. And my own EP that just came out, Outta State Outta Mind [laughs].
What’s your source for hearing new music?
Mostly spotify and youtube music.
Who is your dream producer?
Oh, definitely Rick Rubin. I would love to work on a record with him.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
I’d love to collaborate with Jim James. He’s so talented.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
I’ve been quiet and shy for so long this year I just kind if snapped and said fuck it I wanna release everything I got now.
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
I usually sit down with my guitar and notebook and write it out. Then I record myself singing and playing. Then I track it and it and build off of that.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
I connect with my audience by telling stories and sharing my experiences. They can hear all of that on my YouTube channel or any social media.

Bio:
Whether on stage or behind the mixing desk, Jon Chesbro invites audiences into a world where every note is a brushstroke on the canvas of emotion. The New England multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer released new album Dryas in February 2024, and the experimental, electronic, and mostly instrumental record is a departure from his work as Cosmic Vultures guitarist, showcasing a new complexity and depth in his solo musical compositions. Dryas can be consumed as a whole or in chapters, and a pair of visualizers, ‘MarchToVictory’ (featuring Derek Smith) and ‘Into The Mirror’, precede the album. He followed that up with a new guitar-pop single called “Always & Forever” that summer, leading up to new EP Outta State Outta Mind set for release in September 2024.
