Hostile Array – “I tend to put a lot of my own personal struggles into our music. Hopefully at the end of the day someone finds something to relate to or something that can help them get through similar struggles.” – Interview

Do you have a story behind your artist name?

Hostile Array refers to an opposing force or a group of people in opposition to something or someone. Initially, our lyrical focus was shaped by an anti-authoritarian political message, which made the name fitting at that time. Although our themes have since broadened to include topics like mental health, trauma, and religious indoctrination, we believe the name remains relevant.

Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?

We all played in various bands in our region growing up. Some of us were part of a previous project that ended due to changing interests and beliefs. Wanting to continue making music together, we started this new project from the remnants of our old projects.

How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?

Alternative metal heavily influenced by early 2000s post-hardcore

What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?

Spencer Chamberlin, Sonny Moore, and Chester Benington were my three main influences that made me want to be a vocalist.

What inspires you to write music?

Creating music for me has always been a combination of therapeutic and draining at the same time. I usually pull inspiration from my own experiences, emotions, and current listening habits for what I contribute to the writing process.

Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?

“Underneath” blends the styles from our previous EP, “Trauma,” and our debut release. We aim to evolve our sound based on what feels right at the moment, and this was the next natural progression.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?

I tend to put a lot of my own personal struggles into our music. Hopefully at the end of the day someone finds something to relate to or something that can help them get through similar struggles.

Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?

SeeYouSpaceCowboy, The Callous Daboys, and Bilmuri have been in heavy rotation for me recently. GENESIS by From First To Last has also been a highlight of my playlist recently.

What’s the easiest way for fans to connect with you?

Instagram is my preferred way of connecting. We tend to be more active there than any other platform.

What’s next for you?

Our passion for creating and performing drives us. We have several regional shows lined up through the end of the year and are already working on new material that we hope to release next year.

Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?

We’re completely independent, so unlike many artists with management or labels, all our streams and merch sales go directly to us. If you enjoy our music, please add us to your playlist, buy some merch, or share our work with your friends to help spread the word.
