Forever At Midnight – “As long as the listener enjoys our music, I’d be happy. If they came back wanting more, I’d be happier!” – Interview

Do you have a story behind your artist name?

The origin of our band name stems from having one too many beers and yelling out random words in hopes for something to come together. We wanted something cool and catchy that would represent and remind us of what we were trying to do, make music that we enjoyed playing and others enjoyed listening to. To be honest we wish we had a more interesting story to tell, but really, we just picked three words that rolls easily off the tongue: “Forever. At. Midnight.”

Tell us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?

Me (Josh) and Evan were in a few band projects together prior to “Forever at Midnight”. We are roughly the same age and had similar tastes in music – both writing and listening. We loved pop punk, metalcore and everything in between. We also grew to be able to work really well together as musicians (professionally) and as mates (casually). Once we departed from our last project we were on the hunt for a new vocalist that shared our love and mindset for music and were lucky enough to stumble onto Liv. She is a few years younger than us, but is definitely more mature. She really broadened our spectrum too. To be honest it just feels like the beginning now.

How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?

Do you like energetic, nostalgic pop punk? Riff heavy, melancholy post hardcore? Screaming metalcore with brutal breakdowns? We got you covered!

What drew you to the genre/instruments you’re playing right now?

I believe all three of us grew up listening to these styles of music. All of us have our roots with pop punk. It’s just so fun and energetic, catchy and angsty. We also love our heavy core types of music, we love to bang our heads to some breakdowns. We like these styles of music because they simpler make us feel alive.

What inspires you to write music?

I (Josh) being the guitarist tend to get inspired while just noodling around on my guitar until I end up on a riff a really like to play. That riff will then inspire me to write a complete track. I also get inspiration from random trains of thought. If I get hooked on a particular word – I create a track that somewhat symbolises that word. I say somewhat because I like to leave a lot of room for the track to evolve once the others provide their input.

Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?

We’ve just released our second single “When You Wake”. It is a heavy hitting metalcore song that heavily contrasts with our debut single “Meant To Be” which was more of a nostalgic throwback pop punk track. We are super excited to show all our listeners that we are wanting to and capable of producing both styles of music.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?

As long as the listener enjoys our music, I’d be happy. If they came back wanting more, I’d be happier! We make music we enjoy so if listeners enjoy it, it sort of lends itself to be a natural connection.

Who are your top three artists right now?

This is always a difficult ask. Currently I (Josh) am listening to a lot of Falling in Reverse, I Prevail and Magnolia Park.
