Do you have a story behind your artist name?
Max (singer, guitar player) is into dirt bikes and motocross racing so we thought Full Throttle would be a good name because it ties into that. We wanted to be the band that went all out 100% of the time.
Tells us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?
We’ve packed a lot into a short period of time for sure. We had our first jam the day before the world shut down for the Pandemic. For the next year and a half, we talked and traded song ideas back and forth just by texting, and played a lot of Call of Duty, until we were finally able to get together in person. Since then, it’s been all systems go. We are actually approaching our 100th show which is wild when you think about it. We’ve come a long way and hope to keep it going as long as we can.
We’ve already seen a lot of wild stuff in the music business. Right from our first show when a naked bag lady started running up and down the street in front of the club and there was a guy in a Mexican wrestling mask and a cape sitting in the front row. Keep in mind we were only 15. Every time something crazy happens we joke that’s another chapter for the book. Let’s just say we’ve learned a lot.
How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?
Our sound is pretty familiar. We’ve definitely been influenced by the early 2000’s punk sounds of bands like Green Day and Blink 182. That’s who most people immediately compare us to. We always like to add a little early Goo Goo Dolls and even some Replacements to that comparison. Mix it all up and you’ve got Full Throttle, I guess. I think our sound is evolving though. You can hear that on Best of Times. Our new single. Maybe a little more mature? We still stick to our roots though; our next single is going to be another goofy pop punk banger about dating your buddy’s mom.
What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?
Me (Max) and Evan have been going to school together since pre-kindergarten. Even back then I would tell Evan that one day we were going to start a band, and I was going to play guitar, and Evan was going to play bass. So, it was decided pretty early. Kaelin comes from a musical family as well. His dad was in a band and his older brother played drums in a band as well, so he just was drawn to it. All three of us went to a school for the arts from grades 4 through 8. We can’t say enough about how much that helped us gain the confidence to perform in front of crowds really more than anything.
What inspires you to write music?
We get our inspiration from the normal things. Girls, school, jerky dudes and the perils of drinking too many Energy Drinks. We also have a song we wrote about the Terminator.
Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?
We are really proud of Best of Times. We recorded it with Sigfried Meier at Beach Road Studios, and we are really happy with the way it turned out. We think it rocks and people seem to be digging it. It just a song about the little good things in life. Stuff that you always look back on fondly.
As I mentioned we have another single set to release in probably June and we are in the early stages now of recording our new EP. Probably another 6 songer. Hopefully it will be ready to go in the Fall sometime.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?
People always say they get our songs stuck in their heads because they are just so catchy. When we hear that we think to ourselves. Mission accomplished!
Of all the shows you’ve done, does one stand out over the rest?
We have had a lot of great shows. Getting the chance to open for Teenage BottleRocket and The Queers here in our hometown was amazing. We love those guys and it was so rad getting the chance to play with them. We’re even kind of friends now which is cool. Lat year Ray BottleRocket sent me a Happy Birthday video!
So that was great but getting the opportunity to play at All Your Friends Fest last summer was really something else. Just getting the chance to play that stage, and we killed by the way, and hanging out with the other bands. Billy Talent, Dashboard, All American Rejects. All of them. It was so cool. And the staff and everyone there treated us just like they did all the other bands. We got the chance to feel what it was like to be real rock stars. At least for a couple days.
Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?
That’s a tough one. One band that we can all agree on though is Anxious. We are all really digging them right now. We discovered them when we went to see The Wonder Years in Toronto, and they were one of the opening bands. All the bands were good, but they were fantastic. Loved their set. We went to see them again when they came to London, and they did not disappoint. We can’t wait until they come back again. Actually, we would love to play some shows with them. That would be sick. So, if Grady and the boys happen to read this, hey, give us a shout.
They are so good. So maybe Counting Sheep, by Anxious.

What’s next for you?
We’ve got a big show coming up Feb 13th at a club in our hometown of London Ontario called Toboggan. That’s going to be a blast. Our Spring and Summer is starting to fill up with shows and some Festival appearances. Check our Socials. And as we mentioned we are starting to work on recording our new EP soon. That should keep us busy along with all the regular day to day stuff. You know, work, school, partying, golf, girls, dirt bikes etc. in no particular order.
Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
We’d like to thank you for the opportunity to do this. I know some people who have never heard of us before are going to discover the band because of this and we certainly appreciate it.
