There are fires burning in the mountains surrounding Banff, Alberta – and Regal Foul have been fanning the flames. On their sophomore album This Inferno Is So Mesmerizing, Regal Foul set their struggles ablaze and are left with the embers of something new, resilient, and tempered.
Released April 7 via High End Denim Records, This Inferno Is So Mesmerizing is the follow up to the band’s 2020 debut Monsters in Disguise. The Mountain Peak-Punk trio have taken their respective adversities, and flipped them into 10 new tracks that celebrate the power of community, individual power to elicit change, and resilience to mounting obstacles.
“This album has been a long time coming for us. Recording it ourselves offered up its fair share of hurdles but the final product was something raw, real and something we’re proud of. It describes an age-old tale of regal fouling (messing up royally) and finding a way through the trenches. ‘This Inferno Is So Mesmerizing’ speaks to the part of us that’s a trainwreck bound to crash but also the part of us that hopes for something better.”
– Mitch McCallum

Regal Foul are the definition of working class punk – there is a driving DIY ethos behind their songs that are empowering without slipping into blind ignorance to the challenges everyday people face. Their loud and direct skate-punk style carries tight and anthemic lyrics that leave their mark. Favorite lines that will have you shouting along include “Don’t hate yourself for the battles you haven’t won” from ‘WTWTA’ and “You don’t have to face the flames alone” from their single ‘Caution to the Wind’.
Crackling beneath the fun and energetic sound of the album, the messaging is clear and timely: Don’t give in, you have the power to make the change you need. From top to bottom, This Inferno Is So Mesmerizing is Regal Foul’s most cohesive album to date and is packed with heaters to challenge the darkest of times.

Answering a Facebook ad looking to form ‘Banff’s best punk band’ seemed like a ‘no-brainer’ for Gerry Roy (guitar) and Brian MacEachern (bass) in 2017. While that project quickly fizzled out, it started a friendship that would eventually include Mitch McCallum (drums) and form Regal Foul.
Outliving most bands that come and go in the outdoor tourist town of Banff, the members of Regal Foul are pillars in their local music scene. In 2024 Mitch opened Silent Canvas, offering private lessons, rehearsal space and recording several projects. Later that same year, Gerry launched the ‘Banff Punk Night’ monthly concert series that attracts interest in Banff’s music scene from around the world.
