Into The D.A.R.K.NESS drops ten hard-hitting tracks that are sure to make rap fans abuse that repeat button. Full of emotion, collaborations, synths, deep bass beats, memorable melodies, and awesome rhymes. The album mixes techniques from the late 90s rap, and early 2000s rap masterfully in its wordplay. There are times when you could hear influences from Insane Clown Posse in the horror elements, Eminem in the more vindictive lines, and Tech N9ne and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in some of the music and vocal harmonies.

The album starts with a haunting piano accompaniment that slowly builds in energy with the bass drum. YT comes in like a “T-Rex,” as the song title suggests, then once you think he couldn’t hit you with more fire, he melts your face with some bars. Then, the hook stalks you, pounces on you, and forces you appreciate how easy it is to sing-along to.

“Run,” like the previous track, has a piano accompaniment that directly crashes into an energetic beat that any psycho could appreciate, enjoy, and clean their speakers off after YT and Mmmfd commit lyrical homicide. If I were their enemies, I’d do as they say, “Run, run, duck, and hide,” because they believe in lyrical snuff.

Everyone loves a story of someone overcoming challenges and coming out on top. YT tells the tale of victory and not letting go of your potential. “Runnin’ a Muck” has a hook that makes you want tell everyone you’re headed to the top!

Dark, brooding, and ominous, “Dark Deals” pulls in listeners with synth, piano accompaniment, and heartfelt lyrics. YT and Boondox spit bars about falling to the darkness, perhaps, addiction or other vices.

“Marvin” starts with a spacey and out of this world instrumental YT come in saying, “They call me Marvin, I’m coming back from space, like a Martian, to save the human race, they call me Marvin, I’m done with all the hate, quit mumbling on the track . . .” Could he be here to save us from haters and lousy music? I would say so!

“Boogieman” comes in with an atmosphere that’s reminiscent of ICP and early Eminem. Mr. Grey helps YT deliver lines that give throwbacks to horror films like Nightmare on Elm Street. The listener might not want to sleep after this one as the lyrics are twisted and bring forth images that are pure nightmare fuel.

YT and Bonez Dubb gets everyone hyped with “Whoop Whoop” and tells people “Asses up, get down,” and “Do you feel the wicked sound,” in a blistering track.

My favorite track on the album, “Manical Pain,” starts with a vocal opening that would make Bone Thugs-N-Harmony nod in approval. Then, the track pounds the listener with some insane rhymes that balance the melodic vocals. Rick-E and Lo Key support YT in this song that talks about pain and confusion.

“Like a Track Fiend” is about YT’s new addiction, music. This dependence on music saved his life and sets him free in his creativity. The hook will have you singing along, and the verses will have you trying to keep up with YT’s masterful rap skills.

Starting with piano, like the first track on the album, Into The D.A.R.K.NESS closes with “Deadly Assassin,” featuring Clockworc. The beat is the throwback to early 2000s rap and will have you bobbing your head through the entire track. You’ll be dancing around your room doing ninja moves as you groove to the music.

Into The D.A.R.K.NESS by YT is a rollercoaster of emotions and a whirlwind of hard-hitting lyrics. Fans of 90s and early 2000s rap should rejoice, because YT brought it, and he brought it hot. Fans of Tech N9ne, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Eminem, and ICP should easily feel at home with this instant classic. Fans of contemporary rap won’t be disappointed either, because YT uses synth and other modern techniques that make it sound fresh and new. Into The D.A.R.K.NESS, is a strong and energetic second album by a rising star in the underground rap world. If you don’t have YT on your playlist and you like rap, what are you doing with your life?
