“I’m Leaving” starts with an old school keyboard riff that sets the tone for the rest of the tune. Raquel’s soulful vocals float over a classic R&B beat that bleeds 70s Rhythm and Blues. “I’m Leaving” is about its namesake, it sounds like Raquel has had enough of her now ex-lover’s bull crap and is leaving without saying good-bye. Raquel has been through some heartache, and it shows through her impressive and emotional vocal performance. Many people have left a toxic relationship, and Raquel makes it easier with relatable lines like “Let’s not pretend you’ll come to all my shows,” and “All you’ve done is disrespect me through and through,” you know you’re girl Raquel has got you. The song is surprisingly upbeat for the subject matter, and the groove infects you to your soul, making you dance the pain away. Move over Gladys Knight, Raquel Lily is here to challenge your throne of Empress of Soul. Fans of 70s R&B, fans of Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Adele, and Amy Winehouse would be delighted to have “I’m Leaving” on their playlist! If you haven’t listened yet, then you should. It’s a must-listen track!
