Darro flirted with pushing the Pop-Punk and Emo genre to greater heights by adding trap beats to his previous single “Used Me (all along).” In his latest single, “Phoning In,” Darro and Michael Meaney burst into the new wave of Pop-Punk and Emo while maintaining enough of the original sound not to alienate Elder Emos, who aren’t willing to enjoy the marriage of Pop-Punk and Hip-Hop elements. From “Used Me (all along),” there are more Hip-Hop elements in “Phoning In,” and we adore the boldness of the genre-bending. During the verses, there are drum and bass, a touch of autotuned vocals, more trap beats, and 808s in the hi-hats. Darro brings us back to tradition during the chorus with an unbelievably catchy and driving chorus. Your friends will think you’re nuts because you’ll be singing “Phoning In” every time your phone rings; we advise you to change your ringtone to “Phoning In.” After hearing this banger, fans of My Chemical Romance, Sum 41, Newfound Glory, and Blink 182 will soil their Dickies! If you haven’t already, check out Darro and Michael Meaney’s “Phoning In” and add it to your playlist!
