These guys don’t sleep, they’re too busy rocking out to even take a nap! The Carolyn are here to rock your face off! Let’s see what they got to say!
First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?
The Carolyn was an old building in which I spent a lot of time partying in during my college years. Also during that time period in my life I started writing the songs on our first E.P. and for whatever reason the name just kinda stuck.
Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?
Like many young suburban kids discovering music for the first time in the late 90s/early 2000s, bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41 were extremely influential. At the very least, they inspired me to pick up a guitar. I took a few formal lessons, but started focusing more on writing my own stuff as time went on. During my late teens I became more enamored with “real” punk rock as opposed to getting better at my instrument.
How would you describe your sound?
I think most genre titles are devoid of meaning now, but if you’re a fan of Lawrence Arms, Iron Chic, Menzingers, Alkaline Trio, you’ll probably be able to tolerate our music.
Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?
Definitely the aforementioned ones, along with Bouncing Souls, S.N.F.U., and a buncha others.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Coffee from a Microwave by No Trigger
What’s your source for hearing new music?
Usually seeing new bands live, or the magical Spotify algorithm while I sit in Atlanta traffic.
Who is your dream producer?
Brendan O’ Brien
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Great question and I’m not sure I can truly narrow it down. I’ve been really into singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone as of late. So yeah, I’m gonna say her.
What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?
As briefly mentioned before, I think it was the cultural landscape during my early years that led me to music. Not only were those types of bands all over the radio, but their music also made its way into other things I was interested in at the time, i.e. skateboarding. While my parents forced their music on me prior to me discovering these bands, for the first time I felt like I found something that was truly “mine.” Long story short, I just became fascinated with melodic music put in an ostensibly aggressive package at a young age.
In regards to motivation, I’m not sure. Playing and writing under this umbrella just became entrenched who I am.
Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?
The more I write, the less of a rigid process I have. Sometimes it’s lyrics first, sometimes it’s melody, sometimes it’s a brief idea I send to Oli and he helps me elaborate on it. At this stage there’s certainly an ethos of “whatever works” when it comes to finishing the product.
How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?
While we are on all socials, I am undoubtedly partial to Instagram.
Instagram
Spotify
Twitter
Facebook
Tiktok

Fest 20 in Gainesville, Florida!
