The Dead Krazukies – “It mostly starts with a riff, on bass or guitar then comes the whole structure.” Interview

The Dead Krazukies took time out of their busy schedule to tell us about their music and how they make it. Let’s see what they have to say!

First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?

Hey thanks for having us! The Dead Krazukies name was found more than 10 years ago, during a party night. It’s a pun based on Henry Krasucki, a French syndicalist and The Dead Kennedys. That was to highlight the fact we were/are a cheap version of an American punk band. We also sometimes say that a Krazuki is a legendary animal, who knows?

Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?

We use to listen to Fat/Epitaph punk rock bands since our (far away) teenage years, deep into skate and surf culture. I think we didn’t grow up much and stuck to that era.

How would you describe your sound?

It is definitely punk rock, even if we try to explore more genre, it’s still sounding like 90’s cali punk rock. We love to bring other influence to modernize the overall sound with a bit of metal or hardcore. We are not really good musicians so we keep it simple but very energetic.

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

Most of it comes from Fat Wreck Chords or Epitaph old era: Nofx, Pennywise, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Anti Flag but also Pour Habit and The Distillers.

What’s the last song you listened to?

The single from the new Rancid album and the cover of Sorrow (Bad Religion) by the Interrupters

What’s your source for hearing new music?

Mostly Spotify, but also all DIY groups on Facebook done by punk rock fans for punk rock fans.

Who is your dream producer?

Without hesitation, Cameron Webb.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

I keep dreaming about having a Tim McIllrath (Rise Against) featuring on a song, it would be so good with our lead sing Maider’s voice.

What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?

We all started music at different ages but the motivation is the same: having good times with friends on stage and on tour, record cool things. Music is now a way of life, meet new and cool people, see new places, make friends with other bands…

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

It mostly starts with a riff, on bass or guitar then comes the whole structure. Lyrics are done at the end, the theme will depend on the mood of the song and its intensity.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?

We are of course on every social platform, but the best is still  tomeet people when we tour. Having a drink in real life is always better than a messenger chat.

What’s next for you?

We have a new single coming May 12, it’s called Captain Crust and talks about the drunkest person you can have at a show. The first single released mid April was our cover of Maniac with a music video. We can’t wait to share our full album, the release is due June 16. We have some shows coming and we can’t wait!!

Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?

We can’t wait to tour overseas (hello Canada)…

We would like to thank our labels (SBAM Records and Kicking Records), Goose our booking agent (Kicking Booking), Tom (packaged sounds), Will (London Stick Co.) and all the team at Epic Merch Store.
From the Underworld is coming soon and we really hope you’ll enjoy it! Cheers!
