Grave Secrets – “I usually start with lyrics & then write a riff to it and go from there. I track at home using Logic, and then take it to get fleshed out with the boys.” – Interview

Grave Secrets took a little time out to answer our questions about their music and how they make it. Let’s see what they have to say!

First off, What’s up with your name? Is there a story behind it?

The premise was, we wanted a name NO ONE had. We thought of Grave Secrets, which wasn’t taken by anyone. And most of all, the name alludes to each and every song being a “skeleton in the closet”. Like a secret you’d take to the grave, but ironically, they’re songs that go out to the world.

Tell us about your musical past, would you tell us about your early years?

We’ve all been heavily into music since before we can remember. Kevin, our guitarist has been a pop punk fanatic since literally day one (which is like early 2000’s for us). I (Vinny), have been in love with music since I could first get my hands on it. Actually heavily influenced early on by Spanish rock bands like Mana since my mom would have them playing around the house. And then in early high school, I found Joyce Manor and that’s what ultimately inspired me to write my own music in a band.

How would you describe your sound?

Punk. Pop punk. Rock. Alternative. Indy. Emo. I think we have a little bit of everything in our music.

Which artists have the biggest influence on your sound?

Title fight, Joyce Manor, Movements, FIDLAR.

What’s the last song you listened to?

Where Am I by Title Fight

What’s your source for hearing new music?

Spotify

Who is your dream producer?

We have him, Alex Estrada is a legend and heavily responsible for how we sound today.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

Probably all the bands in our top influences.

What led you to music, and what motivates you to keep making it?

Personally, I am in love with songwriting. It’s my favorite part of it all. And then getting to share it with people who actually give a fuck, that’s the best feeling.

Tell us about the songwriting process. How does it all come together?

I usually start with lyrics & then write a riff to it and go from there. I track at home using Logic, and then take it to get fleshed out with the boys. And then to Alex for final structure changes, adding leads, etc.

How do you connect with your audience? What is the easiest way for them to connect with you?

Shows and social media for sure.

Instagram

TikTok

Spotify

What’s next for you?

Going on tour in October. Dropping this next album. Already have songs for the next. We really want to get to the point where we can sell out a theater like the wiltern. That would be the dream.
