Scaredy Cat – “I’ve had a weird relationship with music. It’s a love/hate thing for me because often times I have to dive into some of the more painful things in my past or even myself and just kind of sit in the room with them for a while, but afterwards I always feel better and glad I created the song.” – Interview

Do you have a story behind your artist name?

I decided to go by Scaredy Cat because I have created music my entire life, and no matter how many times I have tried to release it to the public I have always had a lot of fear or anxiety that it wouldn’t be accepted or received well and because my lyrics are so personal to me it would probably hurt my feelings a lot, HaHa. I was making a song one day a few months ago and decided after a several year hiatus that I would quit being a scaredy-cat and go for it finally. So the name just stuck.

Tells us a bit about your music journey. How has it shaped you?

I’ve had a weird relationship with music. It’s a love/hate thing for me because often times I have to dive into some of the more painful things in my past or even myself and just kind of sit in the room with them for a while, but afterwards I always feel better and glad I created the song. I have played shows and even toured a couple times in the past and met some of the coolest people of my life because of music and so far for this project only being a few months old I have gotten unbelievable love and support and that has truly meant the world to me.

How would you describe your sound to someone unfamiliar with it?

I do a fair amount of genre bending from straight up acoustic emo to post hardcore. For the most part I am a heavily acoustic driven emo-adjacent artist.

What drew you to the genre /instruments you’re playing right now?

I love guitar because of it’s versatility. It gives you the ability to make music in a very modular and independent way more than most other instruments do. As far as the genre goes, I have just always loved the raw and emotionally driven lyrics of the more emo style.

What inspires you to write music?

Life. Next question.

No, but really it is just such an outlet for me. The creative challenge of finding new and clever ways to express a certain thought or sentiment is so therapeutic.

Would you tell us about your current project, album/EP, or song you’re promoting?

I just released a 5 song EP titled ‘Signals’ on all platforms a couple weeks ago and I am releasing a single titled ‘Sparks’ today actually on all platforms. That single is from the LP I am finishing up now titled ‘First Time Sailors’ and I should have a rock-solid release date for that really soon!

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your music?

That it’s okay to present your authentic self to the world. That introspection and unbiased analysis of whatever is scary or hurts you is good and healthy.

Who are your top three artists right now? If that’s not a fair question, what’s your favorite song right now?

My top three artists are

Richard Edwards (Margot & The Nukes)

My Field of Honor

The Spill Canvas
