Emerging post-punk powerhouse P.A.T funnel authenticity and urgency into their latest single “Shut Up!”. Influenced by classic punk grit mixed with a modern melodic delivery, P.A.T share their fresh and timely track while fighting for their own space to exist.
Hailing from Mexico, P.A.T have been hard at work since their first release in 2023. Driven by the insatiable energy of 70s punk, P.A.T continue to experiment with their individual scope by adding post-punk elements and pop-sensible melodies. Their latest single “Shut Up!” find the band yearning to break away from spaces that suffocate them and to be heard above all the noise.
Fronted by Pati Aguiñaga, the vocals on “Shut Up!” fluctuate from sweet and unassuming to a more hardened pitch demonstrating Aguiñaga’s range and ability to match her cadence with the song’s content. The lingering lyric “Just Let Me Go” repeats throughout and feels more and more dire with each delivery. On “Shut Up!”, the vocals are a clear indicator of P.A.T’s progression towards establishing their signature sound and identity.
Supporting the vocals are driving guitars and pounding drums that are rooted in classic punk tones and time signatures. Trading in harsh distortion for a cleaner sound, the instrumentation includes refined production value and creates a clear atmosphere of bubbling discontent. Together, the song hits all the right markers for an anthem encouraging the listener to stand up for themselves against naysayers.
To sum up P.A.T’s “Shut Up!”, it is a mixture of Bikini Kill attitude, Desechables raw energy, and Siouxsie & The Banshee production. “Shut Up!” is a strong single for the band that unapologetically announces their presence, and their right to be heard.
